All eyes were on the unusual black staff, which was wrapped in white branches and a brightly shining purple crystal. Every mage wanted something like that, a weapon that could unleash their full potential.

However, there was one man in the room who would rather take a sip of wine than consider the staff.

"Looks like I needed to delay even longer... Did they decide to leave all the swords for the end?" Zayne muttered with a slight frown.

The auctioneer grinned widely at the interest of the crowd, then he waved his hand and exclaimed, "The starting price for this staff is 700 Gold Coins! The minimum bid is 100 Gold Coins!"

"800!"

"900!"

"1000!"

In less than ten seconds, the price managed to increase by more than a third. There weren't many mages in Red Feather City compared to knights or commoners, but every mage was a wealthy person.

"1500!" Someone exclaimed, and the hall fell into silence. Many people wanted the staff, but even for them, it was too much money.

The auctioneer looked around the room, then he swung his cane and exclaimed, "Sol...!"

"2.000." At the last moment, a quiet voice came from the back row. The auctioneer's eyes went wide when he realized who had said it.

"Mr. Solomon!" Someone exclaimed, turning back and meeting the wisest mage's calm gaze.

"Oh... I didn't expect to have such a special guest among us today..." The auctioneer muttered in disbelief.

Solomon smiled slightly, "I just thought I'd see if there was anything of value here, something I could give to my daughter."

After these words, everyone looked at Rea, who was sitting to Solomon's right. She tried to hide her face with her massive hat, however, it didn't help her much.

"Khm." Solomon coughed, "I understand your interest, but we're in the middle of an auction now, aren't we?"

"Right..." The auctioneer nodded, "Apparently, there will be no more bids, so this incredible staff goes to Mr. Solomon!"

Clap. Clap. Clap.

Applause erupted, though there was no obvious reason, everyone just wanted to show their respect for Mr. Solomon.

The staff was in Rea's possession, and the auction continued at its usual pace. The slots came one after another, almost everything from potions and armor to axes or spears appeared on the stage, however, Zayne still hadn't waited for his sword.

"Hey... Why do I feel like you tricked me?" Zayne looked coldly at Alden as his veins bulged.

Alden smirked slyly, "Well, all I said was that the sword would appear at the auction, I didn't tell you when it would happen."

Several hours had passed, so the auction was coming to an end and it was time for the last most important item.

Crackle. Crackle. Crackle.

The auctioneer personally introduced the booth, which was covered with cloth, but even through the cloth, everyone could see the powerful white light that seemed impossible to contain.

Whooooooooooooooosh.

The auctioneer uncovered the last lot as all attention was directed to one point. Above the stone slab, as if by magic, hovered a long sword with many white runes on its blade. The sword had no guard, and the hilt was completely bare, it was covered only by a few black bandages.

"Hehehe, I think it's obvious to everyone that this is today's top item. However, things are much more interesting than you all think since this sword was obtained from the Treasure Box that appeared after the clearing of Tier Two Chaos Hearth!" The auctioneer exclaimed, making everyone's eyes go wide.

"The starting price is 1,500 Gold Coins! Minimum step of 200 Gold Coins! The price is high, but I urge you to take this chance to get an incredible weapon!" The auctioneer spread his arms wide.

'Hmm...? Damn, that sword looks impressive, but how can I be sure it's exactly what I need? Zayne muttered inwardly, 'It would be nice if I could see its description.'

[You are in a special area - the auction house! A special opportunity is open for this area!]

"What...?" Zayne was puzzled.

"Agh... That's curious..." Zayne took a deep breath, trying to decide if he needed the sword.

After a while, Zayne made a decision and was about to bid, but he just froze in shock.

"3,000 Gold Coins!" Someone in the audience exclaimed confidently.

"3.500! That sword will be mine!" One of the nobles raised the bet.

No sooner had Zayne come to his senses than the price reached 4,000, and he lowered his hand with a slightly sad look.

'Whatever, it may not be a bad sword, but I can't spend five of my former salaries on it. What's more, it's almost half of everything I have.' Zayne inwardly complained slightly, 'I could definitely buy a decent sword from some blacksmith.'

"4.800!" The final price sounded, after which there was complete silence in the auction house. Even for such a weapon, it was too much.

"Well, since this is our last lot, the countdown will be longer than usual this time. Perhaps some of you will change your minds." The auctioneer said seriously and taking a deep breath said, "One! Two! Three...!"

The auctioneer kept counting, slower and slower as if he didn't want to get to the end.

Zayne didn't even look at the scene, he had already made his decision and wasn't going to change it. After all, his budget was limited.

"Six... Seven... Eight..." The auctioneer said confidently, glancing around the room.

'Agh...' Suddenly deep in Zayne's mind came an intimidating sound, like the growl of an ancient beast, 'What the hell are you doing...? Take it...'

Zayne was completely puzzled, he didn't understand if he was imagining it or if it really happened, but when one of his eyes turned red, his gaze completely changed.

"5.000!" Zayne announced his bet drawing everyone's attention to him.

He didn't fully understand what was going on, but in an instant, all his instincts seemed to start screaming that he needed that sword. Zayne just couldn't ignore it.

"Well, well, the Hero Who Defeated the Apostle, Zayne Fellen himself, decided to compete for this incredible sword." The auctioneer grinned contentedly.

"5.500!" Someone immediately interrupted Zayne's bid. It was a man with long hair and green eyes sitting in the front seat of the Goren Family room.

"6.000." Zayne said coldly, then he looked at the man, and a silhouette of massive scarlet wings appeared behind him, "Are you sure you want to go on? It's a lot of money. I doubt you want a sword like that for that price."

The man shuddered as his heart was bound in chains of fear. He couldn't help it and simply stepped back, letting Zayne take the last lot of the auction.

"Sold! The last lot goes to Zayne Fellen! This concludes our auction!" The auctioneer exclaimed with an excited expression.
