When Xia Zhetao received the call, he was finishing the mess left behind by Mu Tingfeng. Although Mu Tingfeng was not a public figure like celebrities, he frequently appeared in financial magazines.

The sudden announcement about him being wounded by a gunshot may induce the idiotic reporters to make up the stories such as a fight for power in the great family, a fight among the brothers and uncles, and other disputes of the rich family.

Therefore, he made a public statement that Mu Tingfeng had met with an accident while he was on the way to work. He did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, was admitted to the hospital, and would recover soon.

Fortunately, the mass media had a good judgment. Even though the announcement made by Mu Tingfeng’s company was not the truth, they did not simply make nonsensical reports.

After all, the reporters and magazine publishers could not afford to offend Mu Tingfeng. By the time he returned in one piece and read their nonsensical reports, he might get upset, and the people would risk losing their jobs.

Moreover, apart from someone like Zhao Youxi who had nothing better to do than to exploit the situation, most people did not know how Mu Tingfeng had injured himself.

Mu Feng Group was a private corporation established by Mu Tingfeng. The backbone of the team was personally selected by him. The cohesiveness of the team was good. Even if Mu Tingfeng was absent for several days, nothing big would happen to his company.

However, humans changed as time and power did. Certain people had come up with ideas that they should not have in mind during Mu Tingfeng’s temporary absence.

As such, Mighty Secretary Xia was the one who suffered. He had to deal with Mu Tingfeng’s admirers and watchers who occasionally came to him to ask about Mu Tingfeng’s condition. At the same time, he had to prepare the documents for Mu Tingfeng, so that he could go through them while Zhao Youlin was not around. On top of that, he still had to spend time conducting an investigation about the mastermind behind the assassination! He was worse off than a slave!

Upon hearing the sound of the ringtone, Xia Zhetao immediately took out his mobile phone. When the phone screen showed the call was from his superior, he withdrew his mournful expression that belonged to a resentful woman, and said solemnly, “Hi, President Mu. How are you? Did Mrs. Mu go over and help out?”

Right after hearing Xia Zhetao’s express his concern for him, the person on the other end of the line fell silent for some time. While Xia Zhetao was thinking anxiously if he had said anything wrong, Mu Tingfeng finally spoke.

“You did a great job on whistleblowing. I’ll give you a pay raise for this.”

Xia Zhetao’s originally sunken heart burst right after hearing Mu Tingfeng’s words. The gloomy atmosphere surrounding him instantly blossomed, and turned lively and vibrating!

“P-President Mu, did you say you will give me a pay raise?!” Xia Zhetao was so excited that his eyes were filled with tears. ‘He’s giving me a pay raise, a pay raise!’ After his salary had been deducted multiple times, he was finally getting a pay raise!

“Yes.”

His brief reply had greatly motivated Xia Zhetao. Xia Zhetao said excitedly, “President Mu, please be rest assured that I’ll continue to work hard, even if it costs me my life! I’ll strive to move forward, even if it means moving heaven and earth! I won’t let you down!”

“This isn’t your first time speaking so,” Before Xia Zhetao finished speaking, Mu Tingfeng had poured cold water on him without hesitation.

Xia Zhetao fell speechless, ‘President, I’m burning with passion now. Could you please not spoil my enthusiasm?!’

“I don’t need you to work so hard to the point of costing your life, nor move heaven and earth. What I want you to do next is to handle the things I’m going to instruct you later. After settling the matter, I’ll give you another pay raise.”

“What if I couldn’t handle them well?”

“What do you think, then?”

“Hehe…” The smile on Xia Zhetao’s face stiffened. His heart sank, and he cried to himself.

He should not have had high hopes on President Mu, thinking he would show mercy to him. His carrot and stick approach was totally a high-pressure tactic!

Upon hearing Xia Zhetao’s grin, the person on the other end fell silent for a brief moment. After that, a voice came from him, “Hmm? Do you have any other opinions?”

Although it sounded like an ordinary greeting, his cold tone carried a hint of warning and danger.

Xia Zhetao shivered. He hurriedly stopped himself from crying like a banshee, and said solemnly, “No. President Mu, just say whatever you want to say. I’ll be sure to complete the mission even if it has to put my life at stake. Please be assured you’ll be satisfied with it!”

Mu Tingfeng was very satisfied with Xia Zhetao’s immediate pledge of his loyalty to him. He wasted no more time with him, and straight away stated his purpose of calling him, “You don’t have to investigate the elevator accident anymore. The culprit was Youlin’s stepsister.”

“So, it’s her!” Xia Zhetao exclaimed in shock. His expression changed, and he looked serious.

“Yes. It’s time to use those things which you’ve gathered last time.”

When Zhao Youxi was kicked out of Zhao Enterprise, Mu Tingfeng had suspected something unusual. So, he had asked Xia Zhetao to conduct a thorough investigation about it.

Xia Zhetao did not find out the things he was meant to investigate, instead, he dug out a lot of horrible stuff committed by Zhao Youxi.

Now, those could be put into good use. They could be used to ruin that woman’s reputation to the extent she could not recover from her previous state.

“Remember,” Mu Tingfeng’s voice was heard from the other end of the line again. He spoke ruthlessly, “I want her to lose her reputation, to be hated by everyone, and make her unable to stay in Shalnork and Zelford.”

This was Xia Zhetao’s first time sensing Mu Tingfeng’s fury. He shivered and swore that from now on, nobody could afford to offend Zhao Youlin.

If one offended the president, they could at least die without suffering. But, if one offended the former Mrs. President, the president would torture them to the point they would have suicidal thoughts!

“President Mu, don’t worry. I’m good at dealing with a vain, vicious whore. I guarantee to complete the mission and drive the woman out of Shalnork and Zelford.

“Good.”

The conversation with Mu Tingfeng got Xia Zhetao’s heart in turmoil, and he was frightened. As soon as he hung up, he heaved a sigh of relief, as if he finally came back to life.

‘What to do? My superior has an imposing aura. Speaking to him is likened to engaging in warfare. How annoying!’

When the mighty secretary Xia recovered his senses, he recalled his president’s instruction. He immediately started his work and contacted other departments.

“Hi, Wang. Please help me contact the famous mass media and publishers in Shalnork, especially magazine publishers of the entertainment industry. Tell them I have something big for them.” ‘Hmph! How dare you lay a finger on the former Mrs. President?! I’ll torture you to the point you wish you had not been born in this world!’

On the other hand, after Mu Tingfeng hung up, he looked at the pear, with its outer skin being peeled miserably. He recalled everything that had happened inside the ward. His eyes sparkled, and his cold hard, handsome face slowly softened.

The person did not want him to be involved in it. So, he was resorting to other methods. After all, even if that stupid woman escaped to the ends of the Earth, he always had ways to make her life… a living hell!
