He’s Jealous He’s Jealous

After a moment, Ji Mian caught an Alpha and made him sit on a chair.

He soaked a towel in clear water, bent down, and gently wiped the blood off Chu Shiye face.

Chu Shiye was feeling a bit depressed and muttered, “It’s not because of you.”

Ji Mian replied with an “Mm-hmm.”

Chu Shiye said again, “I’m doing it for the money.”

Ji Mian responded with another “Mm-hmm.”

Chu Shiye continued to explain himself but was interrupted when Ji Mian stuffed a piece of candy into his mouth.

Chu Shiye paused for a second before saying gloomily, “I don’t like candy.”

Ji Mian smiled slightly and said, “I know you don’t like it. That way you’ll talk less.”

Chu Shiye took the towel from Ji Mian’s hand without saying anything and started wiping his own face. There were no wounds on his face; he had only been splattered with beast blood but wasn’t injured.

Ji Mian felt relieved at this sight and raised his hand to give Chu Shiye something else when he suddenly stood up quickly and said he needed to take a shower.

Ji Mian watched as Chu Shiye walked away without trying to offer any emotional support. Was it because of what happened last time?

He pondered over why someone would rather not repair their mental strength just so they wouldn’t get hurt.

When Chu Shiye finished taking his shower and came out of the bathroom, he noticed that there was nothing on the floor where his bed should have been placed. He stopped drying his hair momentarily, where was his blanket?

As he looked up towards the bed area, he saw Ji Main sitting there comfortably holding onto Chu Shiye blanket. Chu Shiye remained silent and reached out his hand.

“No,” Ji Mian said, “you can’t sleep without finishing your homework, little kid.”

Chu Shiye: “…I’m not a little kid.”

“You are,” Ji Mian said. “Come here.”

He opened his fair fingers towards Chu Shiye, who stood still for a few seconds before walking over slowly.

As before, Ji Mian’s hand landed on Chu Shiye’s face and fingertips touched his eyebrows and eyes. Chu Shiye closed his eyes.

It was like soaking in hot springs with warmth filling every part of the body and seeping into the blood vessels bit by bit until it merged with the heart.

His chest felt warm as if an inflating balloon gradually approached its critical point but remained stuck at that line without moving forward.

Ji Mian withdrew his hand. “How is it?”

Chu Shiye moved his hands slightly. “…There doesn’t seem to be any change yet.”

“Because this is only the second time,” Ji Mian said reassuringly.

“Don’t worry; I will make sure you summon your spiritual body again.”

His calm eyes reflected in Chu Shiye’s gaze, causing him to stir slightly. “Okay.”

Ji Mian spoke lightly: “Alright then, go to sleep now. Here’s your blanket.”

He handed back the blanket to Chu Shiye who hugged it tightly.

The blanket was still warm from being used earlier and although he wanted to say something more, Ji Mian had already gone silent lying down on the bed with closed eyes.

His breathing was shallow while black hair fell between pale skin as he quickly fell asleep.

Chu Shiyue paused for a moment before placing his hand on Ji Mian’s forehead feeling cold sweat dampening it slightly.

Chu Shiye whispered softly: “…”

He crouched beside the bed quietly watching over him.

The morning air was cool as Ji Mian woke up from a dreamless sleep.

Most of the pain in his temples had dissipated. He turned slightly and heard Chu Shiye’s voice.

“Breakfast is ready.”

As he tried to get up, Chu Shiye stepped forward and held him by the hand.

Ji Mian looked up at him and saw that although there was no expression on his face, there was some tension in his eyes.

“I’m fine,” Ji Mian said. “Don’t worry.”

Chu Shiye remained silent, only using the back of his hand to touch Ji Mian’s forehead and confirm that his temperature had returned to normal before slowly putting down his hand.

Then he sat beside Ji Mian, burying his head and feeling sulky.

Ji Mian asked him teasingly. “Feeling guilty again?”

He deliberately teased Chu Shiye, saying, “If you call me ‘brother’, I won’t blame you.”

Chu Shiye was speechless for a few seconds. He obediently lowered his head and said in a slightly lower voice, “Brother.”

Ji Mian praised him with a smile and said, “Good boy. There’s no candy here. You can go play by yourself.”

Chu Shiye replied with an affirmative sound.

He turned around and dragged a small table over to the bed before placing breakfast on it.

Ji Mian got up to wash up but felt someone staring at him from behind. After finishing washing up and returning to the bed, he still felt that gaze fixed on him.

Ji Mian looked up and met Chu Shiye’s eyes at the work desk for one second before lowering his head again.

“Let’s have breakfast,” Ji Mian said.

“Wait a minute. You eat first,” Chu Shiye replied as he scribbled something on a piece of paper. Halfway through writing it out, he raised his head again and asked Ji Mian casually: “Have you ever attended college?”

Ji Main was stirring the oatmeal which was still hot when he took a slow sip of it while replying: “I graduated with my PhD degree.”

This surprised Chu Shiyue who muttered an ‘oh’ under breath then lowered his head once more continuing what he was writing on paper

“What is this?” Ji Main asked curiously after glancing at what Chu Shiye wrote.

Chu Shiye finished writing the last word and handed it over to him. “Tomorrow, there will be an interview at Interstellar High School for a temporary teacher position,” Chu Shiye said. “The employment period is exactly three months, and this is your identity proof.”

Ji Mian took the thin piece of paper which was almost extinct in the capital star where paper documents were rare under the coverage of Star Network. Beautifully bound books with exquisite leather covers were collected like treasures in private libraries.

However, what he held in his hand now was just an ordinary piece of paper that recorded the identity of an ordinary person named ‘Su Lan’.

Ji Mian glanced through the information on that piece of paper and asked: “Do I need to pay attention to anything?”

“That class has a very difficult student named Ye Tiancai,” Chu Shiye said. “His father is a wealthy businessman here, and he awakened as a C-Class psychic from birth.”

Psychic abilities also vary in terms of awakening time; some psychics can awaken their abilities from birth while others require time, earliest being around five or six years old while latest could be on their adulthood day.

Generally speaking, those who are born with awakened spiritual abilities are stronger and rarer than ordinary ability users. C-Class psychic powers are already rare on this planet, let alone being born as a C-Class, the only son of the Ye family must have grown up under great attention and admiration.

Chu Shiye said: “The previous teacher was sent to the hospital several times by Ye Tiancai, so you should be careful too.”

“But don’t worry about me because they can’t touch me.”

“Just do what you want to do.”

Hearing these words, Ji Mian smiled slightly: “You don’t have to worry about me either.”

“After all, I’m good at bullying children.”

“Okay,” Chu Shiye sat down at the table. Ji Mian gently pressed the paper against his chest again and smiled at him. “Thank you.”

Perhaps this smile was too dazzling, Chu Shiye turned his gaze away.

After a moment of silence, he probably wanted to change the subject and took the initiative to ask: “Were you born with psychic powers?”

Ji Mian nodded.

He was born as an S-Class psychic power user which shocked everyone in Capital Star. The Ji family realized immediately that they had been dealt an incredible hand.

So they imprisoned this young S-Class user and his mother under the guise of “protection”.

Since he could remember things from childhood onwards, Ji Mian knew that he lived within invisible walls. He found it difficult to interact with people outside those walls but many pairs of eyes peered over them secretly.

At that time, his mother’s family had long lost their influence; her loved ones left her one after another; her husband who once swore deep love for her became addicted to other women. All she could do was hold onto her child tightly.

…It seems that falling into B Class status and leaving Capital Star gave him true freedom.

Ji Mian handed Chu Shiye a piece of bread and he said: “I took care of that wild beast. Its meat is nutritious and good for the body.”

Ji Mian: “Okay, I’ll try making it for lunch.”

Chu Shiye shook his head. “You should rest first today. You have an interview tomorrow. I’ll take care of it…”

He paused in the middle of his sentence and Ji Mian tightened his grip on the ladle.

Chu Shiyue continued, “…I’ll send it to the restaurant and they will help with it.”

Ji Mian breathed a sigh of relief quietly. “Okay then.”

Chu Shiye remained expressionless.

The next morning, Ji Mian woke up early and prepared to leave.

Chu Shiye said: “Have breakfast first.”

“Take your medicine,” Chu Shiye added.

“Wear this coat and be careful not to catch a cold,” he instructed while helping him button up.

“Alright, alright. I’ll listen to you,” Ji Mian replied obediently.

They arrived at the same district as before and walked through several streets until they reached a school located in the north corner of the city.

The school gate had just been renovated with new letters spelling out “Interstellar High School”, which shone brightly under sunlight, a rare sight in this dull cityscape.

“I’ll wait for you here,” Chu Shiye said.

“Okay.” Ji Mian nodded before walking towards the school gate where an old man sat beneath a tree’s shade wearing a small badge that read ‘Security’.

The old man stared intently at Ji Mian who politely approached him saying, “Hello there! I’m here for an interview. Could you please tell me where to go?”

“Go find the principal,” replied the old man firmly.

Ji Mian asked again, “Where can I find him?”

“I am he!” The old man flipped over his badge which now read ‘Principal’ instead of ‘Security’.

Ji Mian was speechless as the old man said, “Follow me.”

He picked up a small stool and slowly walked towards the teaching building.

It’s not yet time for class, and there aren’t many people in the teaching building. The old man brought Ji Mian to a room at the end of the first floor with a sign that read “Principal’s Office”.

Across from the principal’s office was the “Teacher’s Office”.

Inside the office, the old man sat down and asked, “Are you here to apply for a teaching position?”

Ji Mian replied, “Yes, this is my resume.”

The old man took his resume and scanned it briefly before placing it aside. He looked him up and down a few times and said: “Good, you’re hired.”

He then extended his hand and said: “I’m Xiao Zhang, the principal here. Nice to meet you.”

Ji Mian remained composed as he shook hands with Xiao Zhang and greeted him.

Xiao Zhang handed him a piece of paper. “A three-month probationary period with salary paid at month-end. Here are all the details; take a look. If everything is fine, sign your name.”

After signing his name on the paper presented by Xiao Zhang , he said: “Let me show you around our school so that you can familiarize yourself with your work environment.”

“Thank you very much,” Ji Mian replied.

As they walked along together through small-sized teaching building complex , Xiao Zhang spoke while walking.

“Although our school isn’t large in scale nor do we have many teachers but each one works diligently every day including overtime hours . I hope that you can learn from them more often since young people should endure hardships now rather than later…”

Just as he was speaking these words,a woman with brown curly hair approached them head-on.

“Principal.”

Xiao Zhang smiled broadly. “You came to work so early? You really are one of our most diligent employees…”

Woman responded. “Oh,the power went out at home, so I came here to charge my phone and take a nap.”

Xiao Zhang was taken aback.

Woman continued: “Principal, please step aside. I’m going to catch up on some beauty sleep.”

Xiao Zhang remained silent.

He took a step back as the woman walked past them with an air of confidence.

Ji Mian and Xiao Zhang looked at each other in silence for a moment.

“She… She’s just like you, it’s her first day here and we’re not familiar yet,” Xiao Zhang explained with a smile.

“I see,” Ji Mian replied with a faint smile.

Xiao Zhang then led Ji Mian around the small teaching building complex before saying: “It’s almost time for class now.”

“You…” he looked at Ji Mian.

“Ah, forget it. I was going to have you start working today, but let’s do it tomorrow instead,” said Xiao Zhang.

“Why?” asked Ji Mian.

“Well… Anyway, here’s a day’s pay for you. Go eat something good today,” replied Xiao Zhang with a kind smile as he patted Ji Mian on the shoulder and handed him a stack of thin star coins. “Remember to eat and drink well.”

Ji Mian took his first day’s pay and bid farewell to Xiao Zhang.

As he walked towards the corridor exit, the woman he had just met earlier strolled out slowly and greeted him.

“Are you the new teacher?”

“Yes, my name is Su Lan. What’s your name?” replied Ji Mian.

“Selena,” she answered. “I bet the interview was easy for you. Did the principal hire you without even looking at your resume?”

After receiving another affirmative answer from Ji Mian, Selena chuckled and raised her eyebrows. “Let me remind you that it has been one week since he posted the job opening announcement. You are the only person who applied for this position. Do you know what that means?”

“I heard about it before coming here,” responded Ji Mian calmly.

“Oh wow! You still came despite knowing that? That takes courage!” applauded Selena sarcastically. “But aren’t you teaching today?”

“I’m going back to prepare myself; I’ll come back tomorrow,” explained Ji Mian.

Selena commented with pity in her eyes. “That was his last bit of kindness towards you.”

Ji Mian remained silent for a moment.

“Don’t be afraid, everything will pass.” Selena smiled, “Our school has three classes and three full-time teachers. The teacher you are replacing is still on leave. The other teacher’s name is Mark, you will meet him tomorrow.”

“Let me walk you out.”

The two walked out of the teaching building. A breeze blew by and Selena suddenly leaned closer to Ji Mian and sniffed lightly. “Your scent smells really good, are you an Omega?”

Ji Mian calmly replied: “No, I’m a Beta.”

“Oh dear, what a pity,” Selena lightly flicked her slightly curled hair. “I’m an Alpha though. Maybe we can go for a drink after work today?”

Ji Mian chuckled and shook his head. “Thanks but maybe another day. I have plans tonight.”

Chu Shiye stood at the school gate and saw Ji Mian walking with a strange woman along the path covered in fallen leaves. They seemed to be talking about something as the woman got very close to Ji Mian and both had smiles on their faces.

Chu Shiye’s eyebrows furrowed as he silently withdrew his gaze that had been fixed just inches away from himself.

Selena escorted them to the door, and Ji Mian said goodbye to her before walking quickly to Chu Shiye’s side.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting,” Ji Mian said with a smile.

“The principal gave me my first day’s salary. Let me treat you to a meal.”

Chu Shiyue replied, “No need.”

“Go back then,” he said before turning around and leaving.

Ji Mian wondered if something was bothering him. He caught up with Chu Shiye and lightly poked the Alpha on his arm.

Chu Shiye didn’t even look at him or react in any way.

Ji Mian thought. “As expected, he is upset.”

After spending several days together, Ji Mian had come to understand Chu Shiye very well. With just a little bit of thought, he could figure out what was on his mind and find an accurate answer, it seemed that Chu Shiye was angry because he had made him wait too long.

“That must be it,” Ji Mian thought.
