Sam examined the star fragment.

It looked just like a glowing piece of stone. He tried to hold it by his hands, but it went right through it. When he used the energy vision, it appeared like a singular mass of burning energy… like a nano-sized sun.

Keeping the energy vision as it was, he looked around trying to examine the surroundings. At that moment, he sensed an energy fluctuation behind him.

A small orb of burning energy formed out of nowhere. In a fraction of a second, the energy turned into an elemental creature. A Wolf to be precise.

*SWOOSH*

The wolf zoomed towards Sam.

Sam dodged it easily and watched as the burning glow has cooled down in his energy vision. He could now see it as a normal elemental, except for the small spot in its head.

It still emitted a slight burning glow.

*BOOM*

With an explosion, the wolf launched itself on to Sam. Flames circled around him as he dodged the wolf trying to observe its nature.

After three minutes, when the wolf lunged at him, Sam decided to make the move.

His palm is covered with golden flames as he slapped it on the head.

*BOOM*

The collision caused an explosion. Half of its head was blown into nothing much spiritual energy particles. The wolf crashed into the ground violently. Sam is a bit surprised. He was aiming to penetrate the skull directly and catch a hold of that fragment.

Just from the glow it was apparent that it was the skull, but instead of penetrating the energy body of the wolf, it felt like he hit a regular beast.

Even the texture up on contact felt like that.

Sam was curious how the mechanics behind it work. But of course, before that, he needs to finish this off.

As the wolf came at him, he slipped to the side and held its neck in a choke hold before slamming it into the ground.

*THUD*

*BAM*

*BAM*

As the blows landed, he felt like he was hitting the beast on its skull. After a couple of hits, the wolf 'died' and the body disappeared into a puff of spiritual energy particles. The star fragment floated from within and flew towards the floating star fragment he already had in his possession.

He tried to catch a hold of it, but he couldnt.

The fragment just passed through his palm and merged with the floating fragment.

From the energy vision, he could see that the glow became brighter and orb became slightly bigger. It is still very small, not a single thing about it says it belongs to the star, except for the glow. But up on closer inspection, it is clearly bigger than before.

As he observed it, the orb circled around him and changed its position and for some reason, it felt like it was telling him to move in that direction.

He did exactly that.

After a couple of tests, he even confirmed it. No matter his position, the orb is still floating in that particular direction.

So, he moved in that direction

In just two minutes, a wolf jumped at him from a lava stream.

*SWOOSH*

A ignored the burning flames coming at him and grabbed a hold of its throat. He choke slammed it on a pointed rock nearby. The rock pierced through its body while his grip broke its neck.

The body disappeared and a fragment appeared, joining the orb. The orb moved in a different direction.

It is like a compass, directing him to the nearest elemental creature.

Not just Sam, many people were testing out the creatures as well as the environment of the surroundings. They are even running tests on the Star fragments just like Sam.

They got some information from various sources, but for a lot of them it is the first time inside the pocket dimension and they were curious about how things work there.

Of course, contrary to them there are people who were going all out since the start. Before Sam could even deal with four creatures, some one already killed their tenth, twelfth and even fifteenth creatures.

These are the people that either participated in the pocket dimension the previous year. Which means they are either repeating students who got stuck in that low level, or they are citizens that have not many prospects for growth.

They only come here to get as high rank as possible and gain some reward. They could either sell it or use it for themselves. Some people even came here just to gather as many stars as possible.

On the last day as soon as the combat is allowed between participants, they will intentionally lose to the person who hired them and give away all those stars.

Of course, there are also students of academies. They are just going at it straight without many thoughts. Either they don't care for minor details, or they were given enough information by their instructor.

However, Sam is not doing this out of his usual preparedness. Instead, it was for the legacy inheritance. The legacy inheritance was hidden and its discovery will not hinder the pocket dimension in any way.

It is definitely not part of the final rewards.

He has to find out any possible anomaly in this dimension to make sure that he can find out. After all, the information the instructors gave to their students is not exactly a secret for him.

With all the information combined, he might even have the most information about this dimension than all of them.

He wants to make sure that he can find out that legacy inheritance and was looking for signs.

Meanwhile at the same time Dayus already sprung into action.

As soon as he entered he took out a special spear. He bit his finger and started painting some inscriptions on the tip of it. He injected his spiritual energy and the spear tip started glowing. He ran around while holding that spear.

Whenever he came across an elemental creature, he didnt hold back and killed it in one blow. Even though he collected a lot of fragments, if he could just run past these creatures, he did. He didn't care for the prize that comes from this dimension.

On top of that, he still believed he had a shot at the final prize anyway. On the third day, he could walk through these candidates. He already heard all the exploits of Sam and as usual, if Sam could do it, he believed he could do it too.

After ten minutes, the glow on the spear changed. From white it turned to bright red color. Dayus finally stopped and looked at the elemental creature in front of him.

It is not a wolf. Instead, it is a swan and it is floating around in a large lava lake.

Dayus stored the spear away and took out another spear. The first one was the tracker and the second one is his real weapon.

*SWOOSH*

He lunged forward and dashed on top of the lava. It was boiling and with all his cultivation strength, he still felt the heat.

The swan looked at him indifferently and open its mouth when he was just few feet away.

*SPLASH*

A large ball of magma was shot at him.

Dayus swung his spear and hit the magma aside.

But he still frowned in pain. Just the splatters made him feel a slight burn. The swan disappeared from Dayus' sight.

He lost it and he couldn't even sense it with his spiritual sense. He looked around and then focused on the surface of the pool.

*SPLASH*

He stabbed the spear into the lava, but the next moment, he felt a stinging burn on his back.

*HISS*

He hissed in pain. It was more annoying than harming.

The swan came out of the lava and spit another magma ball at Dayus.

*SWISH*

The spear swing took the ball away. He slid back and activated his lightning elemental fusion.

"You are a fucking swan. Where did your fucking dignity go?"

Dayus swung the spear and a huge wave of lightning hit the Swan on its head.

It was paralyzed for a moment and that was all he needed.

With a single stab, he killed the swan. Its body disappeared and dissolved into the lava. But at that same time, a fragment came flying towards him and marged with his star fragment.

This fragment didnt feel any different from a regular fragment. But Dayus is sure that the swan was definitely stronger than the other creatures he faced.

In fact, the very next moment another swan appeared. But it was neither as strong nor as big.

It was just like any normal swan.

The star fragment that came from this also merged with the other star fragments. The spear returned to its white glow and he started moving towards a different direction.

As Dayus ran many people witnessed his mad dash. They were curious about why he ignored so many beasts on his way, but they were too busy fighting the beasts to think and satiate their curiosity.
