Chapter 22 – If You Can’t Be the Main Wife, Then Just Be the Concubine

Ji Yunyun sneered and explained, “Fourth sister-in-law, don’t underestimate that woman. She has become so powerful now that not only has she made herself look beautiful like a seductive fox, she has also bewitched our parents. The moment you say a bad word about her in front of our parents, then they think you are guilty of a crime that deserves ten thousand deaths!”

Yun Lili raised her eyebrow. “She’s that powerful?”

“That’s right. She was angry with me just now and went back. She should be back when it’s dinnertime and you’ll get what I mean,” Ji Yunyun said.

Ji Jianwen couldn’t listen any more and went directly into the kitchen to help Mother Ji make brown sugar and ginger tea.

“This brown sugar is good. Mother, were you willing to buy it?” Ji Jianwen immediately asked when he came in and saw the brown sugar.

Mother Ji said with a smile, “How can mother buy it? You asked if mother bought it, but mother is still unwilling.”

“Then who gave you this brown sugar?” Ji Jianwen was shocked and asked.

“It is from your third sister-in-law. She gave me two jin, which is enough to use for a while,” Mother Ji continued to smile.

Ji Jianwen saw that her mother’s appearance was much better than last year. Mother Ji did not hide from this question and talked about how filial his third sister-in-law’s had been over the past two months.

From time to time, Su Danhong would bring meat over, and every few days, she would give the old couple a pot of red jujube and Chinese wolfberry tea to drink and warm their bodies. Over the past month or two, both she and the old man felt healthier.

At least her legs were stronger this year, and the old man didn’t cough as much.

“Didn’t third sisters-in-law become angry because of Yunyun and go back?” Ji Jianwen asked another question.

”Yunyun, that girl is a white-eyed wolf. How much good food has she eaten from her third sister-in-law since she came back? She doesn’t say anything nice and she has been making it difficult for her sister-in-law all the time. If it wasn’t for the fact that it is the New Year soon, I would have beaten her to death with a broom,” Mother Ji angrily replied.

Ji Jianwen did not respond. When he saw that there were fried ribs with meatballs on the side, his eyes lit up and said, “The food for this year’s New Year’s Eve dinner is good.”

“That was brought by Danhong just now, and she brought all these eggs and meat,” Mother Ji said without thinking.

Ji Jianwen suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

He did not think his third brother’s family would bring so many things this year. He had also brought back some New Year goods, but compared to these extravagant dishes, it was not as good.

Mother Ji wasn’t trying to intentionally embarrass her son. Wasn’t she just responding when he asked about it?

She gave him the brewed ginger tea and said, “Take this cup and give it to Lili. Mother still has things to do.”

Ji Jianwen came out with brown sugar and ginger tea.

Yun Lili drank the tea, looked proudly and asked, “Jianwen, have you given the New Year goods to Mother?”

“I did,” Ji Jianwen lightly replied.

The other side.

Su Danhong was making delicious food for Xiao Hei.

She gave Xiao Hei a big bone to play with. There was also a basin of rice where she poured a rich soup with a lot of meat into it. If outsiders saw this, they would have scolded her for trying to ruin the home.

This dog ate better than humans.

But Su Danhong just wanted Xiao Hei to eat better than Ji Yunyun. If there was something given to Ji Yunyun to eat, then it also had to be given to Xiao Hei to eat!

“Eat more. It’s the New Year.”

Su Danhong patted Xiao Hei’s head. Xiao Hei ate the meat and rice as he let out an ahwoo sound.

After a while, Ji Jianyun came back. Su Danhong glanced at him and took the initiative to strike first by saying, “If you want to come back and fight with me, then it’s not necessary. I’ll be honest with you, I’ve been waiting upon her for more than half a month and I’m running out of patience with your sister.”

How long had it been?

It was true that the original owner did some bad things in the past, but was Ji Yunyun acting as a proper younger sister-in-law? She was even studying as a high school student!

She didn’t seem to possess any qualities of what a scholar should be. She was more like a bitch in the market, and such a person would never receive anything good from her from now on!

Fortunately, she didn’t take the meat she was marinating over there. There’s just no way she would do that!

As for her parents-in-law, she could only be apologetic to them. When the younger sister-in-law was gone, she would show them filial piety again, otherwise everything would get into her belly. Don’t think she didn’t know this!

Ji Jianyun did not know whether to laugh or cry, and said, “Honey, what am I fighting with you about? That girl has that kind of temper.”

Su Danhong bitterly smiled at the way he wanted to smooth things over. She gave him a side glance and said to him, “You can say whatever you want. I’ve said what I should say, I’ve done what I should do. I’ve done my part, and I don’t think I can do more.”

“Okay, okay, honey. Let’s not be angry, let’s not get mad because of that girl. She will go back to school after the New Year,” Ji Jianyun coaxed her.

“You forgot to give me your allowance!” Su Danhong was unmoved and watched him.

Hmph! ꜱᴜᴘᴘᴏʀᴛ ᴛʜᴇ ᴛʀᴀɴꜱʟᴀᴛᴏʀ ᴀɴᴅ ʀᴇᴀᴅ ᴏɴ ꜰᴏxᴀʜᴏʟɪᴄ.ᴄᴏᴍ

In previous years, he would give money to that white-eyed wolf, and this year he wanted to turn a blind eye to her behavior. But right now, he shouldn’t even think about it!

“I was just about to give it to you. It was in the house. I forgot to give it to you this morning,” Ji Jianyun said at once.

Su Danhong went in with him to get it. She counted it carefully and after seeing that it was right, she locked it up.

She went to the kitchen to boil hot water and prepared the laundry. On such a cold day, she didn’t want to take a bath in cold water.

“Wife, I’ll boil water for you,” Ji Jianyun said straightaway.

The fire in Su Danhong’s heart had not been extinguished yet. If he dared to doubt her, then he should be put to work!

Let him boil the water, let him wash his own clothes, and let him chop the firewood in the yard.

She went back to her room and took out the embroidery to work on.

“Jianwen and his wife are back,” Ji Jianyun said from the yard.

Su Danhong ignored him. They came back, but so what? She didn’t have a good impression of her fourth brother-in-law and the fourth sister-in-law who looked down on others.

It would be better for her to work on more embroidery, earn more money, buy delicious things to eat, and be a glutton.

Ji Jianyun, who was chopping wood in the yard, was very frustrated. He also felt like he was very wronged, and then he looked at his wife. He knew she was not the type to say one thing and mean something else in private, so what made her so angry?

Come on! Let’s chop the firewood properly! He would not go back into the house until chopping the firewood was finished.

With Ji Jianyun back, Su Danhong had a lot of free time. She basically didn’t have to take care of anything at home. It was not easy for him to come back, and Su Danhong didn’t want him to be busy. However, when she thought about how she couldn’t compare with his sister, she didn’t want to take care of things.

She was this type of headstrong, but delicate woman, similar to a concubine. In her previous life, her mother always said that she needed to be open-minded and to support her mother-in-law’s family, but she should not learn to be condescending.

When it was around noon, Ji Jianyun came in with a bowl of dumplings, and Su Danhong’s anger had almost disappeared.

She put the embroidery frame aside so that nothing would spill on it. She candidly ate the dumplings and stated, “I don’t want to stay for dinner any longer than I need to. I will go home as soon as I finish eating.”

“Okay, we’ll go back as soon as we finish eating,” Ji Jianyun promptly said when he saw that she was finally willing to talk to him.

Su Danhong looked at him and asked, “Where’s yours?”

“Mine is in the kitchen. I’ll get it right away,” Ji Jianyun quickly nodded.

When the couple had lunch together in the room, Ji Jianyun was able to see his wife’s embroidery. There were only a few birds embroidered on it, but they were all very realistic.
