Chapter 53 – Bought the Washing Machine and Refrigerator!

When basically every household in town had electricity, how could they not have it installed?

It also really didn’t cost much to install it.

However, Su Danhong also understood the way she thinks and that it was different from Mother Ji. Mother Ji didn’t want to have it set up. She had even questioned why they should spend money on electricity. However, Su Danhong waved her hand and immediately said that she would pay for it, so install it!

Mother Ji had nothing more she could say.

Aunt Yang was shocked by what Su Danhong said and asked, “You’re really going to do it?”

“Yeah. We can discuss whether you’ll use it or not later. Anyways, when you go to sleep, you will not be using much electricity,” Su Danhong said.

“Okay, I’ll ask them to set it up,” Aunt Yang said and nodded after thinking it through.

The electricity was set up quickly when the construction team came three days later.

Most of the families in the village had electricity installed. Only a small number of them said that they did not want it installed because electricity cost money.

Whether they installed it or not was a personal problem. No one opposed it nor did anyone support it.

Xu Aidang and Ji Hongjun had gone to Ji Jianyun to discuss whether they should install it or not. They relied on him since he was their boss.

Ji Jianyun told them to install it without saying another word. It was necessary because it would make life easier in the future. If they had the money to buy a color TV, didn’t they need electricity?

“Honey, once the electricity is turned on, how about we buy a TV first?” Ji Jianyun’s eyes shined a bit.

“Let’s not buy a TV yet.” Su Danhong refused directly without any leeway.

Ji Jianyun had thought that his wife would be in favor of this idea and so was confused. “Why?”

“We will be the only one with a TV in the village if we buy it. Everyone in the village would come to our house. What are we going to do if they get bitten by Da Hei?” Su Danhong clarified.

Ji Jianyun was very surprised by how he didn’t think of that.

But this was indeed something to consider.  If there is only one TV in the village, then everyone would crowd into their home at night and ask, “Can I watch TV?”

When that happens, they would not be upset about the electricity used, but rather how many people would be in their home. Once they let one person watch something, then they would have to keep letting them. Otherwise, people would complain about them. Plus there was also another reason. What if his wife wanted some peace and quiet? When the baby was born, would the baby be quiet?

“Right, right, right, I’m being silly. We won’t buy a TV right now, but we will buy it later,” Ji Jianyun said promptly after having a headache just imagining what their life would be like.

Su Danhong glanced at him and said, “In a few days, the embroidery that I”m doing will be finished. Please go to town and bring it to Hong Jie. This traditional Chinese painted peony embroidery is about 1,500 yuan, and she knows that it’s worth about that much. Also, ask her about the apartment. With the money, we can almost buy two apartments.”

Over the past three months, she had worked really hard. She would not have been able to embroider this much if it had not been for the spiritual spring water to help her recuperate.

This traditional Chinese painted peony embroidery was already the sixth one. The first five were all about 800 or 900 yuan, which was above average. The price of things was going up and so was the price of embroidery. That’s why it had sold even better than before.

Zhen Miaohong had also been honest with her about how their split was almost 50-50.

Su Danhong had spent almost 20 days embroidering this traditional Chinese painted embroidery piece. After giving it some thought, 1500 yuan was a low price.

“Okay!” Ji Jianyun nodded.

After a few days, Ji Jianyun brought the embroidery to Hong Jie.

Hong Jie took a look at this piece and her eyes brightened. She swiftly named a price of 1600 yuan. It was 100 yuan more than what Su Danhong estimated.

Then, Ji Jianyun asked about the apartment in the college town.

“There are still two weeks left to buy, but I have already explained it to my friend over there. I asked him to save a few good ones for us to choose from,” Hong Jie said.

“Sounds good.” Ji Jianyun nodded.

“Danhong worked hard this time, but she wants to buy two more apartments?” Hong Jie asked with a smile.

“Yeah, we want to give it to our children in the future,” Ji Jianyun replied and chuckled.

Hong Jie nodded. “Danhong meizi has good foresight. There is definitely no need to worry about the apartments. There is a university next to it, so its price will definitely increase over time. It will be good to save it for the children as a wedding gift or resell it to buy other places for the children in the future.”

Su Danhong did say that she had planned on buying two more apartments, but there were some things that happened at home a while back and she didn’t have any extra money. But with Su Danhong’s embroidery, she could buy two smaller apartments.

When Ji Jianyun came back, he told her about the money and what Zhen Miaohong said.

Su Danhong said with a smile, “Hong Jie likes to buy apartments. She said that the apartment prices will definitely rise in the future.”

“She praised you for your foresight,” Ji Jianyun said and smiled back.

“What foresight can I have as a country woman? Wasn’t it Hong Jie who said she wants to prepare the apartments as a wedding gift for her children? I don’t even want to buy it,” Su Danhong said.

She had bought her first apartment in Jiangshui City because the first middle school was there. Her children would go there before they go to high school in the future. She didn’t want to have her children be forced to see Yun Lili’s face.

The 108 square meter apartment was not very big, but it would be enough to live in.

There was also an apartment in the town with a college. It’ll be useful when her children have to go to college in the future.

They would have enough apartments once they had two more and could discuss buying more later.

They were not going to buy any after the two apartments because they would not have much money left. The 2,000 yuan severance pay Ji Jianyun brought back would be used to help pay for the apartments. There would only be 1,000 yuan left.

It cost about 600 or 700 yuan to buy a washing machine and refrigerator. With less than 1,000 yuan left at home, she was going to save it to raise her child.

“I asked about it today. If we want to buy a refrigerator and a washing machine, we would have to go to Jiangshui City to buy it,”  Jianyun said.

Hearing this, Su Danhong said, “Then you’ll have to rent a truck.”

Ji Jianyun smiled and said, “When I asked Hong Jie about that, she said she will have it brought to us if we give her the money. So there is no need for me to go to Jiangshui City.”

“Isn’t that too much trouble?” Su Danhong asked.

“I had originally said no, but she explained that it would give her eldest sister some business. Also, there are people who specialize in delivery over there. Let’s buy a Xuehua refrigerator1 and a Youyi washing machine2. They can deliver it here. It’s not too much trouble for them and they are supposed to,” Ji Jianyun said with a grin.

“Oh, they said they’re supposed to?” Su Danhong smiled and glanced at him. She saw the cans of malt milk next to him, and said, “Hong Jie has given me a lot of malt milk. I’ve been drinking it ever since I became pregnant.”

“We can invite her to eat free fruit when our trees are ready,” Ji Jianyun said with a smile.

Su Danhong smiled back. 

Zhen Miaohong was so efficient that she came over with a truck a week later.

This was her first time here and it was to deliver a refrigerator and a washing machine.

Although the village was not small, the arrival of such a big truck soon inevitably caused a commotion. It was like a tornado had gone through their village when they found out Ji Jianyun had bought his wife a washing machine and a refrigerator.

They had seen a pampered wife before, but they had never seen one this pampered!
