Chapter 83 - Sending Over Fish

“Yeah, it looks great. It will definitely have a good harvest next year,” Ji Jianwen said with a smile.

Over the past few days, he has been running up the mountain every day. Not only did he help with some work, but he also spent time talking to his father.

At first, he was sad that his third brother returned from the unit. He felt that with his third brother’s abilities, he would have definitely achieved something great if he had stayed in the unit.

But the heavens did not treat Ji Jianyun with fairness. An unexpected incident happened, and he had no choice but to retire.

Initially, Ji Jianwen did not know about it and no one called to tell him. Later, he knew about it and by then, the orchard was already developing.

But he was skeptical about it. When he was not teaching his classes in Jiangshui City, he went out from time to time to see if there were any jobs he could suggest his third brother to apply to.

A great young man should not wither away in his hometown.

When he came back this year, he wanted to propose to his third brother to rent a shop in Jiangshui City. He could make dumplings, right? He could open a dumpling shop.

Even if he was just fooling around, it was still better than staying in their hometown.

Now that he had returned and had gone up the mountain to see the orchard, he knew that his mother did not lie to him on the phone. His third brother’s orchard was really developing, and he was really happy for his third brother!

With such a large orchard, It would do well as long as it was well managed.

Jiangshui City had a large population. If something was sold there, then business would be good.

When she heard her man say this, Yun Lili pursed her mouth and said, “It shouldn’t matter to you if they are happy or poor.” If her man said it could be done, then nine out of ten times it could really be done.

Su Danhong was still terrible. She got the mountain last New Year, and now the other three families would not get any benefits from it at all, let alone anything from her.

Ji Jianwen did not argue with her. He went into the kitchen for hot water from his mother. He saw that his mother made him brown sugar and ginger tea again. He said with a smile, “Mother, you don’t have to make it for me. I’m not cold.”

“You’ve been susceptible to the cold since you were a child, so it’s better to drink more.” Mother Ji smiled back and gave it to him.

Ji Jianwen took the ginger tea and  took a sip of satisfaction. He exclaimed, “Mother, you don’t have to worry about third brother. I think he will be successful with the orchard!”

“We have a market here, but you are more familiar with the markets in Jiangshui City. Later, I want you to help your third brother find a market over there,” Mother Ji said with a smile.

“That’s not a problem. Don’t worry mother. I will definitely help third brother!” Ji Jianwen replied in a hurry.

Mother Ji said, “Mother is relieved that you want to help. You don’t know how worried mother has been about your third brother. There was such a big wound on his body. And there was his leg. When he walked with a limp, mother was worried that he would be disabled!”

With regards to when Lao San just came back, Mother Ji was extremely worried. It did not show on her face, but she was definitely anxious on the inside.

Ji Jianwen didn’t know about these things, so he had to say, “Third brother’s injuries were that serious? Will it leave behind any other illnesses now? Did he go to the hospital to check it out?”

”At the beginning, it was very serious. He came back and stayed in bed for more than ten days. But you don’t have to worry. Your third sister-in-law took good care of him. She nourished him with chicken every day, and made a variety of delicious food for him every day. His injury was so critical it was like he went through confinement. When it was mostly healed, he had gained more than ten jin,” Mother Ji explained.

That’s how she explained it, but when she thought about it now, her daughter-in-law was wonderful and treated her son well. Just look at Jianyun now, it was like he never had an injury. It must be because Danhong took care of him from the beginning.

Ji Jianwen chuckled and said, “I also think that third sister-in-law has changed for the better. She is completely different from what she used to be.”

“You still haven’t met your little nephew, right? You’ll know when you go see him. You’ll like him. He is very handsome. Except for how his nose looks like your brother’s, everything else looks like your third sister-in-law,” Mother Ji remarked.

“Then I’ll go over and have a look soon.” Ji Jianwen nodded.

The next day, Ji Jianwen went over with his daughter. Ji Jianyun was taking out the fishing net he had just finished repairing. He was planning on catching some fish to fry into fish meatballs and add it as another dish to the New Year celebrations.

“Jianwen, you came just in time. Let’s go and catch some fish!” Ji Jianyun was ready to get to work.

The corners of Ji Jianwen’s lips rose and he questioned, “Third brother, have  you looked at the weather right now? It’s so cold, so how can there be fish? Besides, I’m here to see my little nephew.”

“The weather will still be the same when we come back. Just take Yan’er to her third aunt for a while,” Ji Jianyun replied.

“My baby is shy with strangers. I’ll take her back first so that she won’t make my nephew cry if she starts crying,” Ji Jianwen said.

“Okay, go ahead. I’ll wait for you.” Ji Jianyun nodded.

Ji Jianwen came back soon, and the two brothers went to the river. He saw how his third brother had a watering can and wondered, “Third brother, what do you have there?”

Ji Jianyun raised his eyebrows and answered, “A secret weapon for catching fish.”

“Fish bait?” Ji Jianwen asked.

When the brothers set up the fishing net, Ji Jianwen saw his third brother pour water from the watering can into the water…

Ji Jianwen: “…” He had not seen his third brother for a year and now he was doing something no one could explain. He thought the kettle was filled with fish bait, and he didn’t expect it to be filled with just water.

But what puzzled him even more was that there were a lot of fish coming over, as if they had found something delicious…

“Third brother, what kind of trick is this that is so effective?” Ji Jianwen’s eyes widened and he whispered.

He deliberately lowered his voice to not scare the fish away.

“The fish bait I made is just water from crushed and melted snow.” Ji Jianyun chuckled.

How could he say that he secretly took the water from his wife’s greenhouse?

Ji Jianwen guessed it was like that. The two brothers watched the net and pulled the net in when it was almost full.

This net could hold a little more than ten jin of fish.

Four fish weighed about two jin. A few weighed between one to two jin. The rest were less than one jin. Aside from the small ones that Ji Jianyun released, the rest were put into the buckets.

""

Ji Jianwen was very happy and repeatedly shouted, “Third brother, let’s throw the net again!”

“The river does not have a lot of fish. Let’s stop. This is enough for us to eat.” Ji Jianyun laughed.

When they went back, Ji Jianyun gave Ji Jianwen two fish that weighed two jin.

Ji Jianwen was not polite with his brother and went back with the fish. Ji Jianyun brought one to Aunt Yang next door.

“What a big fish!” Aunt Yang was very cheerful and smiled.

“It’s not big, but it’s enough for you and uncle to eat.” Ji Jianyun said with a smile. “There is still a lot of celery in the greenhouse. If you want to eat celery dumplings, then you are welcome to go over there and pick some. Don’t be polite to us.”

“I know. I’ll go pick some later and make some celery dumplings.” Aunt Yang smiled.

“Okay.” Ji Jianyun nodded.
