Qin Yuan lifted his phoenix eyes and smiled. “Mister Ruan, I’m afraid of pain. Be gentler to me.”

Ruan Qingmu stared straight at him. “I’m warning you. Don’t use this expression to look at Lao-zi. If not, when Lao-zi’s temper flares up, I’ll do you regardless if you’re eighteen or not.”

Qin Yuan did not say anything. Only after a long time did he involuntarily lick his lips, his slightly narrowed phoenix eyes glistening with a light. “Actually… there are a few days left. Just do it if you want.”

Ruan Qingmu was at his wits’ end again. “Ahhh, fuck off! Even if you’re eighteen, Lao-zi isn’t yet!”

Fuck, fuck, fuck. Qin shaoxia was usually indifferent and cold-hearted, but when he got so earnest and slutty, he would defeat anyone who faced him.

The two were chatting when the door outside made a very soft unlocking sound.

The door had a code lock with fingerprint recognition and the person who came in obviously had fingerprint access, so he didn’t make too much noise when he came in with his big bag.

It was none other than Qin Zhufeng.

He was about to raise his voice to call for his son when he suddenly heard movement inside the gym and the obvious laughter of teenagers.

One voice was unfamiliar, crisp, and unrestrained, and the other was his son’s, with a gentle tone he had rarely heard before, carrying a hint of doting.

He faltered slightly and couldn’t help but move over to the other side.

The door was ajar, and a large, woolen mat spread on the floor. His son lay on it with an extremely pretty teenager lying side by side, staring at him with his cheeks propped.

The room was well-heated and the two boys were dressed in identical sparring clothes, their snowy white collars open, their faces flushed and sweaty from exercise. One was handsome and gentle, and the other with picturesque eyebrows, both indescribably bright.

Not knowing what had just been said, the teenager suddenly stretched out his finger and flicked it fiercely on Qin Yuan’s head, menacingly saying, “Pah! You don’t have a position as an entering daughter-in-law, understand?”

No sooner had he finished speaking than the teenager’s eyes caught a glimpse of him at the door, suddenly froze, and then jumped up.

Qin Yuan turned around and also sat up in shock. “Dad? What are you doing here?”

Qin Zhufeng didn’t know why as he felt a strange feeling in his heart for a moment but failed to grasp it vaguely. He smiled flusteredly and nodded at Ruan Qingmu. “Is this Xiao-Yuan’s friend? Welcome. Welcome.”

Ruan Qingmu finally reacted and hastily stood straight, giving him a polite smile. “Uncle, hello. I’m Ruan Qingmu, Qin Yuan’s friend.”

Qin Zhufeng suddenly realized. “Ohh, I know! I know! Old Yan told me that you are very close with our Xiao-Yuan. I finally got the chance to meet you today.”

Qin Yuan was slightly stunned and asked in a low voice, “Dad, when… did you return?”

Qin Zhufeng smiled and joined them outside in the living room. “I just got off the plane. Uncle Yan has sent Aunty Wei and Xiao-Quan to the new house with the others. I came here to see you first.”

Qin Yuan was even more taken aback. “What? Is the whole family here?”

Qin Zhufeng’s face was full of smiles, but he was slightly cautious. “Yes, ah. We’re so used to staying there that it becomes boring, so we’re changing the place to spend the New Year. Xiao-Quan is very happy.”

After saying that, he intentionally or unintentionally added, “The new house here is large and it’s under your name.”

Qin Yuan was a bit stunned and didn’t say anything.

Ruan Qingmu listened on the side, knowing full well in his heart. There was such a big conflict last year because the stepmother was not happy to place Qin Yuan’s biological mother’s memorial in the house under her name every year.

As a father, this year’s approach was considered to be a good one. He bought a new house for Lunar New Year and put it under his son’s name. That was Qin Yuan’s home and his call on what to put up and what to worship.

He looked at Qin Yuan’s silent face and then at Qin Zhufeng’s slightly cautious demeanor. “Uncle, you haven’t met your son in a long time. You should chat more. I’ll return first.”

Qin Zhufeng hurriedly stopped him. “Don’t. Don’t. It’s rare for Xiao-Yuan to have such a good playmate. Don’t go just because I’m here. Let’s have a casual meal together. Uncle also wants to chat with you about school.”

He was sincere in his words. Qin Yuan had few friends growing up and he had never even seen him bring anyone into his home, so now he was genuinely happy to have someone of his age to play with so well.

The momentary strange feeling in his heart just now was also quickly covered up.

Ruan Qingmu looked at Qin Yuan and nodded. “Okay. Thank you, uncle.”

Qin Zhufeng had already ordered a takeaway from a five-star restaurant on his way here. The special delivery man arrived quickly with a table full of sumptuous and exquisite dishes.

While Qin Zhufeng was diligently feeding Ruan Qingmu, he said to Qin Yuan with a smile, “It’s boring to stay at home since we’ve returned to spend the New Year. I’ve discussed this with Xiao-Quan. Why don’t the whole family go out to play?”

Qin Yuan’s chopsticks paused and Ruan Qingmu listened without making a sound.

Qin Zhufeng said excitedly, “Let’s go to the nearby Qianyuan Mountain. They’ve just opened a new high-class private mountain resort. We can go skiing, mountain climbing, and fish in the lake, and the view is very pretty. Oh, right. They also have a newly-opened natural hot springs pool. When Xiao-Quan looked at the flier, she really wanted to go there.”

“I won’t go…  the college entrance exam is near. My schedule is all filled up,” he said with some difficulty.

Qin Zhufeng hurried to say, “With your grades, it’ll be no problem for you to go out and play for three or four days. Xiao-Quan really misses her brother. She kept asking about whether you’ll go on the way here.”

Qin Yuan couldn’t object anymore. At an age like his little sister’s, she was extremely eager to go out on a trip. Besides, would it be possible to spend the entire Lunar New Year apart from the whole family, resolutely refusing to go on the same trip?

“But… I’ve agreed with my friend to go spend the New Year at his house.” He clenched his teeth and looked at Ruan Qingmu, who had been quiet and silent beside him. “Last year, I stayed for two days in his house. His mom is very good to me.”

Qin Zhufeng stared at him blankly and then at Ruan Qingmu.

The relationship between his son and this friend was shockingly good. Has it gotten to the point that he visited the house as a guest and even to the extent of staying there overnight?

Last year… was when his son ran back in anger. Was this the same family that took him in and helped take care of him?

He suddenly slapped his chopsticks. “Xiao-Ruan, uncle has an idea. Can I invite your family to go on a trip for this year’s New Year? Our family will be the host. You can return and discuss it with your parents, okay?”

He looked at Ruan Qingmu with excitement and anticipation. “I have seen many of my friends go on family trips with the families of their children’s friends. The adults will interact more and the children will have a companion. It’s especially popular!”
