Running To You (1)

Ruan Qingmu’s heart clenched. This was just like Qin Yuan, ah. He was the one favored by all the teachers at school, admired by all the boys, and secretly liked by the girls.

The same Qin Yuan who was always proud and strong in the sports field. The same Qin Yuan who could rebuke those scumbags like Liu Jun to the point of shame. The same Qin Yuan who easily wiped out all competition by dozens of points!

Why should he be treated like an outsider in that wealthy family and inexplicably be subjected to resentment?!

Looking at Qin Yuan’s slightly red eyes, he suddenly stood up and circled the room. “Then, you should return! You can come to my house to celebrate the New Year. I will tell my mom to cook you some delicious food.”

After thinking about it, he anxiously kicked the corner of the desk. “Forget about it. Why don’t you return the day after tomorrow?”

It was almost time for the New Year’s Eve dinner, so he couldn’t really book a ticket now and spend New Year’s Eve and the first day of the year on the train with a hungry stomach, could he?

Shit. Today was Qin Yuan’s lunar birthday! Even if his rubbish parents didn’t celebrate it for him, they shouldn’t give him a hard time on this day, should they?!

Qin Yuan inhaled lightly and said to Ruan Qingmu in a soft voice, “Ruan Ruan, I’m all right. You don’t need to be anxious.”

Ruan Qingmu stopped sharply and approached the phone, looking at him intently without saying a word.

“But your brows are wrinkled,” Ruan Qingmu said worriedly.

On weekdays he mostly looked lazy, appeared arrogant, and rarely seemed gentle like he did right then. Qin Yuan stared blankly at his handsome face, his heart rising with unfamiliar sad emotions.

“Is it very ugly like an old man’s?” Qin Yuan asked in a hoarse voice.

Ruan Qingmu muttered, “It’s not like that. It’s just that your wrinkle comes out like a ‘川’ character. Too handsome now that you have no friend* nearby.”

*T/N: This is a compliment, saying that because he is too handsome, no one wants to make friends with him.

He said this, but his heart still felt a pang. He stretched out his fingers and touched the screen as if trying to smooth out the slight frown on Qin Yuan’s brow.

Across the screen, Qin Yuan could only see him reaching his finger out and the tip of his finger was immensely enlarged in front of the camera. He was slightly stunned and followed Ruan Qingmu’s example, raising his hand as if to touch his friend.

It was then that their fingertips were gently aligned across the screen.

The room was quiet and the earthly bustle outside was far away, leaving only the two youths facing each other from afar. When their fingers were connected, their hearts were no longer distant.

Qin Yuan’s brow relaxed a little and a vague gentle shyness was seen on his handsome face. “Ruan Ruan, I’m okay now.”

As soon as he saw Ruan Qingmu’s face and saw his worried look for him, his heart suddenly calmed down like medicine was just poured over his poisoned heart, and all the pain and suffering just simply disappeared, and he could see the light from then on.

Ruan Qingmu looked at him and also smiled. “Have you eaten the New Year’s Eve dinner yet? Don’t just sulk. You should eat something.”

Qin Yuan thought it over for a moment. “Mm. Don’t worry. How about you? Don’t you need to help your mom in the kitchen or something?”

Ruan Qingmu burst out laughing. “I’m only a hindrance. I mainly accompany my mom in the kitchen to talk and play.”

“Wrapping dumplings? I see you still have flour on your hands.”

“Mm. My mom rolls the dumpling skin. I help her knead the dough. Yun-jie and Xiao-Zhuang wrap the dumplings on the side.”

Qin Yuan asked doubtfully, “How can Yun-jie do these things too?”

“Blind people could learn repeated motions fast,” Ruan Qingmu explained. “After holding her hands and teaching her a few times, she could do it by herself. Xiao-Zhuang is smarter and could do it after learning a few times.”

He suddenly remembered and said to Qin Yuan, “Oh right, Xiao-Zhuang’s end-of-term exam results are very awesome. He got 100 in every subject and only made a few mistakes in Chinese, getting 98. The teacher said he was also fast at learning sign language and could already communicate with his classmates.”

Many children with special needs in the city were taught sign language early on, but Xiao-Zhuang didn’t have this sort of environment around him, so he just made his own gestures. When he first went to school, his gestures were utterly different from the others and he formed his language system, so the teacher had to make a lot of effort to correct the mistakes from the beginning.

Fortunately, the child was still young and could change quickly.

Qin Yuan’s heart suddenly stirred. “Ruan Ruan, last time when you took Xiao-Zhuang to meet me, why did you ask me whether I recognized him or not?”

Ruan Qingmu was stunned. “Ah? Haha. I just inexplicably felt you were fated to meet him.”

Qin Yuan looked at him, seemingly lost in thought, and said softly after a while, “That’s right. I felt unfamiliar when I met him for the first time. But somehow, after getting along with him for a while, I felt slightly familiar.”

Ruan Qingmu’s heart jumped. After a moment of silence, he suddenly laughed. “Are you stupid? I’m only speaking nonsense to tease you, but you take it so seriously. I won’t talk about it anymore in the future!”

Looking at Qin Yuan’s lost look, his heart felt like it was suddenly pricked by a needle.

At first, he felt it was boring that he didn’t remember anything and hoped he would remember the past. But now, he didn’t want him to remember anything at all.
