Shepherding Humanity

Chapter 50: Alchemical Bio-Car

Xu Zhi secretly observed him by reading his posts.

This player basically didn't evolve new species and spent most of his game time creating tools and building houses. His current residence was a sea-side mansion, complete with fences, a house, a garden, and a mining well.

He lived in this happy little home like an isolated scientist.

In the yard, there was a bicycle of the simplest kind. It had a wooden frame, and the bicycle chain was made with tough and resilient hide. You could actually ride it, though it would make for a bumpy trip.

"What talent! Even a bike has been built!"

Xu Zhi was surprised. "There truly are many oddballs online. So, after evolving your odd tentacled species, you have decided to settle down and climb the tech tree, huh?"

At this moment, after being killed by Xu Zhi, this player has evolved a strange species with six arms, and had just climbed ashore. He went back to his comfortable little home and continued farming, mining, and cutting down trees.

It was a leisurely daily routine, similar to Xu Zhi’s.

The others were talking, though.

"The boss is so gifted! His new species is even more impressive than the last one. Look at this serrated arm, look at this shovel-like limb! It's just like a multi-function mechanical arm, and can chop down trees and dig up the ground so quickly…"

"He’s messing around too much. He is obviously very talented since it did not take him long to create this species. Had he been serious, he could have beaten Akina’s Speedster, and become the first player to get an achievement. But he simply didn’t care to compete, and now he has become addicted to farming. What a waste of talent."

Many people felt that it was a pity.

Future Skywhale did not pay any attention to them, and continued to devote himself to mining. "It looks like there really are no minerals underground; there probably aren’t any minerals in the world of “Spore Evolution”. Developing a technological civilization is out, I guess we can only go the route of biological evolution."

Numerous people scoffed.

"Obviously! Why are you trying to smelt iron in game about evolution?"

"This only proves that this game has an amazing amount of freedom. It’s like a real world, with infinite possibilities."

…..

While the others were talking, Future Skywhale was shaking his head. "Forget it. If I can't dig up any minerals again tonight, I won’t have iron ore. Which means no cars, mechanical engines, motorcycles, and airplanes. Furthermore, there’s no gasoline to serve as a power source… In the future, I'll have to focus on evolving bio-tools. I’ll develop technology and build equipment out of wood; my biggest goal right now is to build a wooden car."

You still want to build a car, even with no metal, and no gasoline?

Everyone was shocked. Who was this person in the real world?

Judging from his rhetoric, he seemed confident that he could make cars, build engines, and climb the tech tree starting from scratch. What a frightening person…

Was he a professor from one of those research institutes, the kind of expert personnel who invented new aircraft engines and developed missile technology?

But would such a big shot like that come here to play?

And his actions had been so comical too. He had screamed so miserably when he died last time.

One person couldn’t help but ask: “You're going to build a wooden car, boss? How? That’s such delicate and precise work, it'll be very hard to assemble the gears and the frame, and even if you could do it, there's no engine.”

"I've thought about that. I could make a biological engine, and evolve a special creature with only a mouth to eat with, and a powerful tentacle responsible for moving the turbine, providing power."

Future Skywhale continued: "I asked my friend who’s an internationally renowned expert in biology, and he said that due to survival of the fittest, this kind of creature could never naturally appear; it doesn't have what it takes to survive in nature. But we can artificially control evolution, and create the conditions for it to evolve."

Everyone gasped.

Create a bio-engine to replace gasoline and electricity?

Theoretically, it could indeed be done.

"You’re awesome! A true professional! Your level of technology and innovation is an entire generation beyond ours!"

"If one of these creatures is born and becomes the engine of a wooden car, then taken as a whole, it could be considered a mechanical life-form. This could be the second species to be awarded for having great potential!"

Everyone was super excited and raised a ruckus. This was an amazingly bold and innovative idea. In the primitive Paleozoic era, a certain big shot was already trying to evolve mechanical life.

"Do you need help?"

"Do you already have an evolutionary blueprint, boss? I can evolve this bio-engine for you. I’m super hard-working and can endure any hardship, it doesn't matter if you fail a dozen times, please experiment on my body to your heart's content! Please play with my body!"

Future Skywhale politely declined their enthusiastic offers, stating that he would do it himself. He had already contacted several of his friends who were professionals in the field to help him; naturally, he wouldn’t hand over the potential achievement reward to anyone else.

He may have a sedate personality, but he wouldn’t give up this opportunity.

…..

Meanwhile.

Bio-engine?

Xu Zhi frowned. Gradually, he found himself becoming excited.

This was the beginnings of alchemy. It was a truly unexpected and happy surprise.

Unfortunately, although alchemy was likely to appear soon, magic potions were still nowhere in sight. This made Xu Zhi feel bad, he had pushed for the development of alchemy in order to cure his disease after all.

"He’s an actual boss." Xu Zhi silently called up this person’s identity. He was over forty years old and was the founder of a well-known tech company. It was a truly impressive background.

If they met in reality, Xu Zhi wouldn’t even be qualified to serve him.

He had truly reeled in a big fish. He had been right to seek help online, where there were so many talented people. He would have never come up with something like this had he been left to his own devices.

Xu Zhi went to bed after that, leaving the players to their exuberant discussion. Let them tackle the difficulties of evolving new species, he was happy to just reap the rewards.

The next morning, after Xu Zhi got out of bed, Chen Xi brought him breakfast.

He gave the smaller sandbox a quick glance. Apparently, after dying once, the players had settled down a lot and it was developing properly. Meanwhile, a sudden change has occurred within the big sandbox which had lost the Three Witches.
