Systemless in a Parallel World

127 Three-headed Chimera

The origin of the three-headed Chimera was said to be the same as the origin of the legendary Hydra and Cerberus, the Gatekeeper of the Gates leading to the Underworld.

They were considered monster siblings even though they looked very different. Their origin could be traced back to the time before the God's Era and it was said that the first ancient texts of the multi-headed monsters appeared around the same time the Colosseum had been constructed.

When Zayn read about this for the first time in the Archive of the Adventurer Hall he had been quite surprised.

There shouldn't have been monsters like this before the Realm Fusion. Only with the fusion of the realms did all kinds of monsters appear in this world.

But according to the ancient texts that didn't seem to be the entire truth either. Various texts of existing monsters had already been noted down long before the realms had fused.

Did that mean the realms had been connected before already, or that the vast majority of humans had been oblivious to reality?

The appearance of the Chimera, the Hydra, Cerberus, and various other mythical creatures was close, if not exactly the same as described in the ancient texts.

Thus, Zayn had a lot more reading material than he initially expected. He had first compared the appearance of the three-headed Chimera with the Chimera known from the ancient texts before he began to read and study everything down to the finest detail. Merlin Kivan had given him a detailed report about the Chimera as well, including where he had injured it severely and how the injuries should influence its combat power.

Because of the information he had been given and the things he had read thoroughly, Zayn was prepared for the terrific presence that shrouded the entire Colosseum when the three-headed Chimera emerged outside the metal cage. It let out a loud, imposing roar from each of its three heads and stared down at Zayn, whose lips twitched.

The Chimera had the body of a lion, and the head of a goat rising from its back. Other than the Lion and Goat head there was also the head of a dark-green Lizard with a long neck jutting from its chest. The Goat head was to the right of the Lion-head while the Lizard-head was to the left.

The Chimera had a long serpent tail as well. The head of a serpent could be seen at the tip of the tail, its fangs gleaming dangerously. The venom of the serpent tail was highly potent and was strong enough to kill a Soul Knight in seconds.

It was also a formidable foe because of its sharp claws and fangs. That was not even everything the beast had at its disposal even though it was already enough to make even the most experienced Adventurers gulp nervously.

The body of the Chimera was partially covered with black scales, increasing its defenses and each of its heads had a special trait.

The Goat head could spew flames, the Lizard head could spit highly corrosive acid and the Lion head could release thick mist that was not only highly inflammable but also capable of preventing others from manifesting and controlling soul particles outside their body.

That meant, the moment Zayn was surrounded by the thick mist, he would have to use twice, if not more soul particles to manifest his Soulblades, and maintaining them would be several times more draining as well.

All-in-all, Zayn had to pay attention not to get bitten by a tail lunging at him and digging its fangs into his flesh, the highly corrosive acid of the Lizard head, the thick mist of the Lion-head and the flames of the goat head…and that was ignoring the terrific speed of a mythical creature with two Soulrings, the razor-sharp claws and fangs of the Chimera and the fact that it could charge and bulldoze him with its heavy weight of more than a ton.

Zayn was definitely not nervous to fight the Chimera. He was not worried at all…of course not…

The only advantage he had was that the Chimera's goat head was partially severed making it unable to spit out too many flames anymore. Its' goat head had nearly been severed by Merlin and the same could be said about the right front leg of the Chimera. It should decrease its speed considerably, and the force exerted by the goat head.

That was what Merlin told him, and it was also the only thing Zayn could make use of in hopes of defeating the Chimera!

The Chimera didn't even show any intentions to attack him immediately. It stared down at Zayn and waited patiently, prowling around the Colosseum arena's outskirts with a predatory gait.

Zayn, wearing a black coat, had already unsheathed the Dragontale Twin Sabers. He had yet to release any soul particles, while his body was already filled with soul particles that surged through him, enhancing his strength as much as possible. There were quite a few things he wanted to test out, but he felt incapable of moving under the constant stare of the three heads.

The Chimera's body was covered in scars that had been inflicted by both weapons and other monsters it had been fighting. The Lion head's right eye was missing and there were huge parts across the Chimera's entire body that weren't covered in black scales anymore.

Zayn thought of various areas which he could attack to inflict serious injuries with the Dragontale Twin Sabers. That was, as long as he could get close enough to the beast without getting gravely injured in the process.

However, he knew that he would be slower than the Chimera, even though he was not sure to what extent. That was something he had to figure out first.

After a full minute had passed without either party attacking the other, the spectators started to shout. At least, there were some of them who were enraged that the battle was not yet over. Some idiots had bet on Zayn's victory within one minute. They thought that Zayn would sweep through the third Colosseum Challenge easily, just like he did before.

However, that was utter nonsense and it showed that the Gamblers didn't even think twice before they made their bets.

As the voices of the spectators rose, Zayn tensed up a little.

And it was at that moment the Chimera shot forward…crossing more than five meters in an instant.

'Fuck you, Merlin…you said its leg was crippled!!'
