On the day the Duke and Duchess of Valfruga arrived at the castle, Xaril looked down at them through the window of the clinic and laughed.

It is truly funny that such a young and weak being is trying to catch him.

Looking from a distance, the duke was small enough to be crushed to the ground with his hand.

The Duchess, who seemed to have never held a sword before, was not worth caring about in the first place.

‘I’m not sure if they are capable of finding me. I’ll simply swallow them slowly .’

That’s what he had thought so.

“Luc, kill him.”

At Felia’s words, Lucius jumped in the air.

A sharp sword was aimed precisely at his neck.

A thick pressure that made his fingertips tingle.

‘Die.’

Instinct moved faster before he could make a judgement with his head.

Xaril unconsciously covered his arm with demonic energy and flicked Lucius’ sword away.

At that moment, his eyes met Felia, who smiled strangely.

“Found you, culprit.”

Felia pointed to the black magic that glowed around Xaril.

“You…How…How did you know that I’m the monster…”

When Xaril glared at the two of them and asked, Felia replied triumphantly.

“It’s obvious!”

“What?”

“Besides you, there were two other candidates. But if you look into mysteries, the culprit is always a likeable doctor like you. So I tested it out. If your life was threatened, will you reveal your identity or not?”

“Ha…! Just by that……!”

“Thanks to that, you revealed your true identity, didn’t you? If you were a human, our Luc would have stopped in the middle. Our Luc is sword genius!”

Felia’s praise made Lucius’ cheeks flush red while he held the sword.

‘Stop in the middle? How ridiculous.’

Xaril gritted his teeth tightly.

He had several experiences of fighting while living as a monster.

That was the intent of someone who truly wanted to kill the other party.

Xaril looked into Lucius’ cold red eyes.

That guy wouldn’t have cared if he had really been a human or not.

‘This won’t do. It went against the plan, but……!’

As Xaril used his powers, the shadows began to move.

The shadow of the chair cast on the floor constantly grew and shook.

It wasn’t just the chairs.

The curtains hanging by the window, the figures, and all the shadows in the room began to dance.

Then, in an instant, it rose up and swallowed everyone in the room before it fell silent.

“Master! Wake up!”

I was awakened by someone shaking me in the midst of a haze.

I looked around and found that I was inside a cave.

When I turned my head and inadvertently tried to scream at the sight, a large hand covered my mouth.

“Shh. It’s not good to make a loud noise, Master.”

When I raised my head, my eyes met Blackie’s, who had turned into his human form.

The cold touch of his hand calmed me down.

“Have you calmed down now?”

As soon as I nodded, Blackie removed his hand from my mouth.

“That…What is going on……”

They were the missing children.

The children were locked in iron cages that were divided into sections like chicken coops.

I heard that the number of children who disappeared was 20, but the number of children who were imprisoned here seemed to be well over 100.

The children did not move, their limbs were hanging down like dolls.

“…Are they alive?”

“No one has died yet. Though, it won’t last long.”

“What about Luc? Where’s Luc?”

Could Luc be locked in that cage too?

I hurriedly turned my head around and saw Luc lying on the high altar.

“Luc! Wake up, Luc!”

I shook Luc to wake him up, but Luc only grunted and would not wake up easily.

“What happened?”

“It’s because he touched black magic. Black magic alone can suck life force. He’ll wake up when his stamina recovers, so don’t worry too much.”

“Then, that’s a relief……”

I saw monsters appearing while hugging the small body in my arms.

“Squeak, squeak.”

A swarm of rats the size of a forearm approached us with gleaming red eyes.

Its large front teeth appeared to be able to crush stones, and saliva dripped from its mouth.

Xaril, who led the swarm of rats, smiled and exuded black magic.

“If you had behaved obediently, I would have ended you without needing to see the rough side.”

I got goosebumps every time I made eye contact with a rat, but I managed to put on a relaxed smile.

“Isn’t it just a rat? If you want to compare, this one is a dragon!”

I shouted as I tightened my arms around Luc.

“Go, Blackie! Water cannon!”

Blackie shot out powerful streams of water.

The army of rats that were rushing towards us was blocked by Blackie’s water cannons.

Occasionally, a few rats tried to jump out of the stream, but to no avail.

“Blackie, deep freeze!”

The soaked rats were frozen in place.

Blackie asked while getting rid of the rats.

“Master, what’s with the skills name?”

“It’s simple and easy to understand.”

“……Master, don’t go naming anything in the future.”

It was easy for me to understand!

The moment black magic touched him, Lucius felt something inside him break.

It was as if he was breaking a cage that was locked inside him, something that shouldn’t be opened.

Lucius had a dream.

He was a filth abandoned inside a cabin deep in the woods.

He couldn’t lift a hand, and there was no one looking for him.

Occasionally, when a stray animal passed by, he ate it up to survive.

‘Hungry.’

How much time has passed.

A creature he had never seen before appeared in the forest where he was.

They searched all over the cabin, looking for something.

“You’re wrong. They already left.”

Then, someone lowered themselves towards him.

“There is someone alive here.”

It was a petite woman.

Her hair was a sweet colour as if it would melt away once touched, and her eyes were clear blue, a colour that he had never seen before on the dirt ground.

Then, the blond man spoke sharply.

“It’s the remains of the monster. It’ll die if you leave it alone, but if it bothers you, I’ll kill it.”

‘No. I don’t want that.’

He may have been a filth abandoned on the roadside, but he didn’t want to die.

When Lucius stirred his arms, the woman said.

“But it seems more like a human than a monster. If it’s the remains of a monster, then it’s not completely a monster, right? Should I take him in and raise him?”

“What? Are you crazy?”

He could hear the voices of the man and woman arguing.

In the end, the woman seemed to have won as she hugged Lucius.

“I will protect you from now on. Right, you need to have a name to be called…”

After pondering for a long while, the woman smiled brightly and spoke.

“Let’s go with Lucius. It means light in ancient language. Just because you are born from a monster doesn’t mean that you are dark. How about Luc for short?”

The man with light hair looked at the woman and responded.

“Master gave him a good name compared to mine.”

Then, the woman smiled and hugged Lucius.

“From now on, this child is my family.”

She took good care of Lucius.

She would feed him delicious food, give him a warm bed, build a snowman together and go to see a fun play.

Lucius, who looked like a newborn baby when her first met her, became seven years old a week later, and fifteen in two weeks.

A month later, he was well over her height and became a full-fledged adult.

It was a happy time.

And in an instant, the world collapsed.

A beast with black fur and red eyes howled low in the cage.

He asked Lucius in a delighted tone.

“Isn’t it such an interesting story?

“What happened after?”

Lucius asked coldly.

That was definitely the story of Felia and him.

If it had ended happily as it was, he and sister would have never met again.

“Don’t be in such a rush. Now that the restrictions have been lifted, the memories you lost will slowly return in the future.”

The beast grinned and looked at Lucius.

“With your memories, your strength, abilities and everything you’ve forgotten will come back. When the time comes, you will be able to get me out of here.”

As the beast said, there was a lock attached to the cage.

“Why should I release you, who looks so ominous at first glance.”

Despite Lucius’ firm refusal, the beast hummed in a friendly tone.

“Don’t push too far. I am you soon. You deny it now, but eventually, you will find me on your own.”

“……”

“Ah, I look forward to that moment.”

There were too many rats.

It felt like it was pouring waves.

No matter how much we killed them, a new swarm of rats appeared and squeaked.

“Blackie! Don’t you have a skill that can shoot a wide range? Something that can wipe out the whole area!”

“If there was such a thing, I would have used it long ago!”

Blackie froze a rat that attacked him and shot another water cannon again.

Blackie’s ability was not infinite.

I could feel that he was slowly getting tired from constantly using his abilities.

“Master, how long do I have to last?”

“Just hold on until I knock that guy out! They’re all controlled by him, so I think we just need to get rid of him!”

When Blackie froze Xaril, the rats took advantage of the moment and rushed towards him.

Then, Xaril broke from the ice and escaped far away.

Blackie was reaching his limit from stopping the rats and Xaril.

‘Should I make a move?’

I held the dagger in my hand and thought about it for a while, but it seemed difficult.

The moment I move, the rats will attack me.

While I was contemplating, someone grabbed my arm.

When I lowered my head, my eyes met Luc’s.

“Luc! You’re awake now?”

Luc looked at me while blinking his red eyes.

Something seems a little odd about him.

However, now was not the time that I could wonder further.

Luc, who quickly grasped the situation, looked at me and asked.

“Have you been protecting me?”

“Yes.”

Luc’s gaze turned to Xaril and the horde of rats this time.

“There are many things I want to do with sister, but……Now, I have to get rid of that guy.”

At that moment, a rat passed through the weakened Blackie and rushed towards me.

Luc’s sword moved quickly.

The rat, whose body had been cut in half in the air, fell to the ground.

“I told you. I’ll get rid of anything that tries to harm sister.”
