Chapter 8 – The Mysterious Man

“En… Ge…”

When Lin Dongxu heard Lin Ji sleep-talking, he suddenly withdrew his hands. went into the bathroom in a panic and washed his face. The Lin Dongxu in the mirror was completely different from the Lin Dongxu that Lin Ji knew. He raised his eyes, his deep eyes, “I still have to wait…”

Back in the room, Lin Dongxu lay softly next to Lin Ji, but he didn’t dare to look at him again. Lin Dongxu. Lin Dongxu still remembers the first day when he first arrived at the Lin’s family. The family was oddly harmonious, he knew he was an adopted son, so he always stayed peaceful.

Mother Yu Huanhuan is a great beauty. She usually speaks in a very dull tone, but she’s very kind to her parents. Whenever there’s anything good to give, she would always thinks of her parents first.

Father Lin Wang was a reserved person. He would always scorn mother’s flattery, but is always kind to him. His father would always give the things his mother gave to him, and stuffed them into his hands. His father was a very soft, peaceful person, always sitting in the garden holding a photo album, sometimes looking at it all afternoon.

Once Lin Dongxu saw a photo in the album, so Lin Wang pulled him over, pointed at the man in the photo and said that was Uncle Jiang, a former classmate of his. Lin Dongxu still remembers that that was the first time Lin Wang smiled at him. At that moment, he looked haggard, but his smile was as bright as a young boy who just fell in love.

The phrase ‘first awakening of love’ might not be appropriate to use, but many years later, whenever Lin Dongxu remembers that day, these four words are the first words that come to mind.

The man in the photo looks very well-behaved, with delicate eyebrows, although he was obviously not as tall as Lin Wang, he still insisted on putting his arms on the other’s shoulders. He smiled brightly, as if nothing else mattered.

Lin Wang said that he’s lived his entire life as a coward. This big house was not his, but belonged to the Yu family. He didn’t want to stay here. Although he could see the sky and he could hear the birds sing, he was not free. There was no longing for him here.

“Why?” Lin Dongxu asked.

Lin Wang raised his head and looked at the sky and then looked down at the photo and softly said, “Because here, there is no longing for me.”

At that time, Lin Dongxu didn’t understand what he meant, until Lin Ji came.

It was a rainy night and Lin Dongxu heard Lin Wang and Yu Huanhuan arguing. The sound of their argument was drowned out by the thunder outside the window, and the noise transmitted into Lin Dongxu’s ears from outside the house. He heard Yu Huanhuan say that all she wanted was a child, a biological child that belonged to them.

Lin Wang dragged Yu Huanhuan downstairs, lightning flashed across the sky outside the window. His deep voice reached the ears of Lin Dongxu who was eavesdropping behind the door, “Abort the child! Yu Huanhuan!”

That was the first time Lin Dongxu heard Lin Wang shout, leaving a very deep impression on him.

The child wasn’t aborted, and as expected, he arrived eight months later. His name was Lin Ji.

Although he didn’t know what happened between the two, Lin Dongxu thought that Lin Wang and Yu Huanhuan had reconciled, and he had always thought so until Ling Wang died.

After Lin Wang died, Yu Huanhuan disappeared.

Lin Dongxu inherited the Yu family’s company and has been constantly taking care of the young Lin Ji.

As the warm temperature around him approached him, Lin Dongxu got up, covered Lin Ji with the quilt and left the room.

Standing in the yard, he took a cigarette and lit it at once.

“Cough cough… Cough…”

In the smoke and fire, Lin Dongxu was choked by the smoke and covered his mouth and coughed. The moonlight casted the shadow of the tree on his tall figure. His broad back seemed to be able to withstand everything.

In the dark room, Lin Ji opened his eyes. He stood up and walked to the balcony and could see Lin Dongxu who was smoking and coughing violently in the yard.

The blotched shadow of the tree fell on him. Lin Ji knew that he owed his brother a lot.

Walking back to the room, the phone on the bed lit up, indicating that there were new notifications for Lin Ji. He opened it to take a look. The two striking, big characters, ‘Jiang Che’ were plastered on the screen. He opened it excitedly and saw that Jiang Che had sent him a message saying, “I just broke up.”

When Lin Ji saw these four words, his heart skipped a beat. He didn’t know how to describe his current mood, whether he was pleasantly surprised, or more sad.

“Don’t be sad, it will slowly get better. You’re so good looking, there must be a lot of people who like you.”

After Lin Ji finished typing this sentence, he lay down in the cold room. On the head of the bed was Jiang Che’s shirt. He grabbed the shirt and held it in his embrace. This way, his empty heart will be filled.

“Do the people who like me also include you?”

Jiang Che couldn’t sleep, so he sent a message to Lin Ji. He didn’t expect him to reply in seconds. While texting, Jiang Che started to act deadly again.

T/N: For some reason the last sentence sounds super off to me… I’m thinking that Lin Dongxu/Lin Ji’s father liked Uncle Jiang but couldn’t be with him, perhaps we’ll find out later *shrug*
