Chapter 30 Be a Nanny Once

When the men walked back, the women on the beach were still digging, the children were still playing, and they didn’t feel hungry. Their faces were covered in sand and sweat, and they were still smiling happily.

The children from the Ye family dug a large hole and made the youngest one, Ye Chengyang, sit inside it, burying him until only his shoulders were exposed.

If Ye Yaodong had arrived a little later, Ye Chengyang would probably have had only his head exposed.

He frowned, "You brats are quite good at playing, but it's very dangerous, you know? What if someone accidentally trips and falls, landing directly on your little brother or steps on him? That wouldn't end well! Quickly dig him out for me!"

"Oh, okay, Third Uncle. We'll get Yangyang out right away."

"Oh, come on, it's normal. Didn't we all play like this when we were kids? It's so much fun," Ah Zheng said with a cheerful smile as he squatted down to look at Ye Chengyang. "Are you having fun?"

"Fun!"

"You silly idiot!" he exclaimed in annoyance, then called out to his wife, "Ah Qing, come and see how stupid our son is."

Lin Xiuqing turned her head and only then noticed that her youngest son was buried. She furrowed her brows, enduring the soreness in her waist and numbness in her legs as she quickly took a few steps over.

"What nonsense is this? How could you bury Yangyang like that? What if he feels suffocated and can't breathe properly? Quickly dig him out! You mischievous kids, you can find a way to play with anything.”

Looking at the children with flushed faces, as dirty as little monkeys, Ye Yaodong shook his head. "Let's all go back home first. You've been playing for so long, and look at yourselves! You're all covered in dirt. Hurry up and come with me to wash up."

"Oh, we're going home now? Is my mom and the others going back too?"

"You all come with me first and take a bath. Don't cause any trouble here. You've played enough for now.”

Lin Xiuqing, seeing that he voluntarily offered to take the children back home first, was also eager for it. Having so many children around was driving her crazy. "Listen, all of you go back and take a bath and eat. We'll come back home in a little while.”

"Alright then."

The leader, Ye Chenghai, agreed, and the other children didn't object either. It was already past 1 o'clock, and everyone was actually quite hungry.

Ye Yaodong asked Little Xiao to put in the octopus, and then handed the bucket to Ah Zheng. "Take it with you. I'll go straight to Ah Guang's house in the evening."

"Just pour it into my bucket, and you can take your bucket back with you so you don't forget.”

"That works too."

A few of them took a step ahead, and once the youngest son was dug out, he lifted the silly kid up, "Let's go, time to go home."

Lin Xiuqing watched as his bucket was emptied all at once, but she didn't say anything. After all, they had managed to collect a good amount of tiger grouper and snow clam today, which would fetch a decent income. As for the remaining seafood, they could take it with them if they wanted.

"Third Uncle, why did you decide to go digging by the sea today? My mom and the others all said that the sun came out from the west," Ye Chenghai asked as he walked beside Ye Yaodong, sounding like a little grown-up.

Ye Yaodong looked down at him and glanced sideways, casually saying, "We ran out of side dishes for drinks, and I didn't have any money in my pocket. So, don’t I have to gather some free seafood to go with the drinks?"

"Just as I thought! How could Third Uncle possibly change his ways?" Ye Chenghai had a knowing expression on his face, looking like he needed a beating..

He couldn't resist and flicked his nephew's head, saying, "What do you know? You're just a little brat. Have you finished your summer homework?"

"Oh, come on, it's only been a few days since the vacation started. Why are you in such a hurry? We still have several months left. I hate it when people ask me about my homework or grades," he said as he turned his head to the side and took a few quick steps, no longer walking alongside his third uncle.

Ye Yaodong rolled his eyes. There isn't a single person in their family who knows how to study!

The college entrance examination has been available for several years, but not a single university student has emerged from their village. In Baisha Village, among the people of his generation born in the 1950s and 1960s, it's already considered quite impressive if they can recognize a few characters.

"Walk properly, stop chasing and fighting. If you fall on this dirt road, you'll scrape your knee and start bleeding right away. And you, why are you running around in the bushes? Hurry up and go back..."

He kept shouting and scolding all the way, like herding ducks, until he managed to drive the mischievous troublemakers back home. His mouth was dry from all the yelling.

Taking care of children is definitely not an easy task, especially when dealing with a whole group of them. It's enough to make him feel overwhelmed and irritated.

As soon as he entered the house, he grabbed a water kettle and started chugging it down. However, those mischievous kids either clung to his clothes or tugged at his arms.

"Third uncle, have you finished drinking?"

"Third Uncle, hurry up!"

"Third uncle, don't drink so much, save some for us. We're also thirsty."

“Dad, I want to drink too..."

"Cough, cough, cough~ Here, take it, take it!" Being pulled by them, he ended up choking while drinking. These little rascals!

The old lady stood by, smiling happily as she watched them. "Once you're done drinking, go to the back door and take a shower. I've already heated up two buckets of water, and there's a big pot of hot water still on the stove. Yaodong, later take the hot water to the back door, and fetch two buckets of well water to mix in for them to wash."

"Understood. You sit down and take a rest. Don't busy yourself walking around," Ye Yaodong said as he helped the old lady to sit by the nearby table.

"Oh, I just boiled some hot water, didn't do much. Your mother said we would have sweet potato vermicelli for lunch when she went to the pier, so I didn't even cook rice."

"Oh, then you sit down. I'll take them to the back door for a shower.”

His own body wasn't too dirty, just sweaty. He could simply rinse off later. However, a few of the children were quite dirty, covered in sand all over their bodies and even on their heads. He would have to help them wash up!

The three nieces carried water back to the house to wash themselves, while the five boys stood naked in the backyard. The older ones could wash themselves, but the two youngest ones were his own sons, so he had to help them.

"Stop, stop, stop, Dad! You got water in my eyes. Can't you be more careful?"

"It's already good enough that I'm washing your hair. Just rinse it quickly and come over here!"

"My mom used to place a stool and let me lie down on her lap to wash my hair. Sigh~ You step aside, I'll do it myself. You can wash Yangyang," Ye Chenghu said with a hint of disdain as he moved to the side, intending to rinse his hair on his own.

"If you want to wash on your own, then wash on your own! You're not appreciative even when I act as your nanny. I don't feel like taking care of you either.”

Looking at his youngest son who was waiting by the side, barely able to stand, he realized he didn't know how to wash his hair properly. "Forget it, we'll wait for your mother to come back and wash your hair. You sit in the basin, and I'll clean the rest of your body.”

"Hehe~ Haha~ It tickles! It tickles! Daddy~"

Hearing the sweet and tender voice, Ye Yaodong couldn't help but smile. He had never paid much attention before, but now he realized that his youngest son was quite adorable when he was little.

"Now that the neck is done, we need to wash the armpits too. Hurry up!"

"Don't~ it tickles~"

"You little rascal, you splashed water all over me!"

Ye Chengyang splashed the water in the basin playfully, discovering a fun game. He started continuously slapping the water with both hands, causing it to splash all over Ye Yaodong's face.

After washing himself, the eldest nephew took the remaining water in the basin and splashed it all over the second nephew. In the process, some of the water splashed in his direction and drenched him as well.

He wiped his face with his hand, turned his head while drenched, and helplessly said, "Ye Chenghai, did you do that on purpose?"

"Ah? Haha~ No, I didn't do it on purpose. It's just that you happened to be squatting there, Third Uncle!"
