“Oh…. no. Not really.”

“Are you sure? Where does it hurt?”

“I’m not hurt.”

“Then why are you acting strangely?”

I was at a loss for words to answer. I had said a lot of things to Adrian earlier, but where had my shamelessness disappeared to?

To make matters worse, Kyle seemed to be convinced I was in pain because I was avoiding making eye contact with him.

A large hand was placed on Noah’s forehead without any warning.

“… You don’t have a fever.”

“It doesn’t hurt… You don’t have to worry so much.”

Kyle ignored her and lowered his hand to her cheek. Noah breathed in and bent herself backwards to avoid him. His previously nonchalant touching felt like a very dangerous act today.

The avoidance seemed to cause Kyle to misunderstand, Kyle’s eyes instantly narrowed. Noah opened her mouth to make excuses.

“So, sir, this is…. It’s not because I don’t like you…”

“…It doesn’t matter.”

His face didn’t look like he meant that. His face that had been full of anxiety a short time ago, was erased and the usual cold expression he had was back on.

“I’m here to tell you something quite important today, however, you don’t seem to want to listen.”

“Ah.”

“I see you’re not really curious about the results of the investigation on the train to Edmant and the Angelic terror attack, so I’ll just leave.”

Kyle, after he spoke, got up from his seat. Noah jumped to her feet and ran after him in a panic.

“Have you seen the recordings? What did you find out?”

“A bit.”

“Then tell me…”

“Didn’t you say you weren’t interested?”

Kyle picked up the jacket he placed on the chair and nodded at her.

“It’s up to you whether you wash before bed or not, just don’t mess up the house. If you go back there and catch a cold, or if you turn the house into a goblin’s den, I’ll never set foot here again.”

“What?”

The earlier threats didn’t even register in Noah’s mind. Noah chased after Kyle who had turned around and started walking towards the entrance of the restaurant.

“Where are you going, sir?”

“It’s none of your business.”

“I’ve made a mistake! I’m coming with you.”

Noah grabbed Kyle by the sleeve of his shirt, but he didn’t stop. Due to this, Noah had to walk along with him whilst holding onto his sleeve.

“Are you offended by what I said? It’s not like that. I don’t hate you. Don’t get me wrong. Don’t be upset.”

“I didn’t misunderstand and I am not upset. Let me go. Penelope is waiting.”

“Who’s waiting for you?”

Penelope was the beautiful investigator. Kyle’s immediate subordinate.

Of course, Noah tried to reason with herself to try to make herself feel better.

Kyle’s responsibilities aren’t just a couple and I’m not the only one he needs to protect.  He can’t handle all that alone, so it’s natural to get help from your subordinates. That’s all true… But why have I increased my grip on his shirt?

“At this hour? Just the two of you?”

Noah stared at Kyle with a firm look in her eyes. Kyle raised his eyebrows as if he didn’t think anything strange.

“Is there a problem?”

“…no, that’s not it.”

Yeah, what do you have to do with me? Let’s be a true master who can respect their butler’s private life, Noah.

But Noah couldn’t let Kyle go. If all the details of what she had been through on her way to Tezeva had been revealed, of course, she had to know!

Kyle, who didn’t realise the chaotic thoughts she was having, still snapped at her in his cold, brisque tone.

“When you want something from me, that’s the only time you look for me.”

“It’s not… It’s not just that.”

“I have a report I’m scheduled to send to the higher-ups, so I’ll have Penelope send it for me. This would be enough to answer Miss Noah’s questions.”

Noah had nothing else to say when Kyle said that. ‘Are you really offended?’

When Noah glanced elsewhere and hesitated, Kyle glanced down at her and walked away. Noah looked at his departing back, feeling a little empty.

But then again, I’m the one who’s been trying so hard to avoid him for the past few days…

Thinking about it from a different perspective, she would also have felt offended. However, that didn’t mean that Noah could just confess and say: ‘It’s because you’re bad for my heart.’ Then you’ll find it difficult to come near me.

The tension left Noah’s body, she had been tight with nerves throughout the meal.

“Noah?”

Muel, who was sitting at the end of the table swinging his short legs, tilted his head. Noah beckoned the child lifelessly.

“Muel, let’s go.”

“Okaaay.”

Muel looked at her while stretching his words and then stared at Kyle’s back as he left the restaurant with his head tilted.

“What are you doing? Let’s go.”

“Uh… but Noah.”

Instead of jumping off the table and following Noah, Muel shouted surprisingly loud.

“You have a wound on your neck!” (PR: Muel the wingman-no pun intended)

“Huh?”
