On New Year’s Eve, Bai Xianzhi gave small gifts to Liu Qingshan, the aunt he knew in the alley, and his grandparents’ homes. These were things he made himself. When he returned, Liu Qingshan stopped him.

“Xianzhi, take this.”

Bai Xianzhi accepted it and found that Liu Qingshan had given him a small box of homemade farmhouse sausages. The skin was thin, the meat was red, and it glistened with oil. He declined, saying, “No need. Pork is so expensive this year, and these sausages are too valuable.”

Liu Qingshan insisted and said casually, “These sausages were made from the pigs raised by my grandmother. It didn’t cost anything. Take them and enjoy. Hurry, I’m leaving!” After speaking, Liu Qingshan quickly ran back into the building, not giving Bai Xianzhi a chance to refuse.

Returning to the shop with a smile, Bai Xianzhi placed the sausages in a small room. It was still early, so he brought out his computer to calculate how much money he had earned in the past few months.

When he started calculating, he was surprised by the results. The business at Three Thousand Food House was doing very well, and considering the exchange rate between Space-Time Coins and Chinese Yuan, Bai Xianzhi knew he would earn a considerable amount. However, he didn’t expect to earn nearly five million in such a short period!

This was only the profit from his shop. If he added the shares from Time Moon Hotel and Spicy Blood hotpot restaurant, he estimated that he would make over one hundred million this year!

A few months ago, Bai Xianzhi was just a poor guy with only five digits in his bank account, struggling to pay rent. But now, he had become a millionaire or even a billionaire. It felt unreal no matter how he thought about it.

He pinched his leg and felt the pain, finally making it feel a bit real. However, the amount of money in his account was too much, and he didn’t intend to convert it all into Chinese Yuan, even if he wanted to, he couldn’t.

A poor guy opening a small restaurant in a remote alley, making over a hundred million in just a few months—no one would believe such a story. It might even attract the attention of relevant authorities, and then he guessed that his small shop’s uniqueness wouldn’t be hidden anymore.

Though happiness improved one’s mood, Bai Xianzhi was still alone during the New Year. But the money filled the emptiness in his heart, and he slept soundly for two days. He got up early on the third day.

After breakfast, he tidied up and went out. The whole city was filled with a festive atmosphere of reunion and happiness. The streets were crowded with people. It was the first time Bai Xianzhi had gone out since taking over Three Thousand Food House. Though he wasn’t fond of shopping, after not seeing the outside world for a while, and with the New Year’s atmosphere, he couldn’t help but take a few more glances. Suddenly, someone not far away called him.

“Old Bai! Old Bai!”

Bai Xianzhi turned towards the voice and a smile appeared on his face. “Old Ji!”

A tall and lean figure walked towards him from a short distance. Bai Xianzhi greeted him, and the two bumped fists and patted each other’s shoulders. Ji Dong said with a smile, “Finally found you. It’s been months since we last heard from you. I thought you went abroad or something!”

Bai Xianzhi smiled and said, “How could that be? Let’s find a place to sit and chat.”

Ji Dong gladly agreed, “Sure!”

They found a café and sat at an outdoor table. Ji Dong couldn’t wait to ask, “Old Bai, you disappeared as soon as you got your graduation certificate. You didn’t come to the class gathering, and we couldn’t reach you on the phone. Where did you go?”

Bai Xianzhi helplessly said, “Not long after graduation, my uncle fell seriously ill and was hospitalized. I rushed to take care of him, but my phone got stolen in the crowded hospital. I had to buy a new one and got a new number.”

“I see. How’s your uncle’s health now?”

Bai Xianzhi sighed, “My uncle passed away.”

Ji Dong said, “I’m sorry. My condolences to you.”

Bai Xianzhi smiled and said, “It’s okay. A few months have passed, and even the saddest things have faded away.”

“You’re right,” Ji Dong quickly changed the topic, “Let’s not talk about this. Many classmates have returned to s city for the New Year. We’re planning to have a class reunion tomorrow. Will you come?”

Bai Xianzhi was intrigued. During graduation, he didn’t bid farewell to his classmates properly. He didn’t want to miss this class reunion, so he asked, “Will everyone be there?”

Ji Dong replied, “Not everyone can make it. Nearly ten of our classmates are from outside s city and can’t come. But besides those ten, the rest have expressed their intention to come.”

“Alright, I’ll come too. Let me know the time and place.”

“Sure.”

The next day, Bai Xianzhi put on a down jacket and took a taxi to the gathering place—a famous five-star restaurant in s city.

“Come on, Old Bai, most people are here. Let’s go inside and take a seat.”

They had arrived not long ago and Ji Dong, who was waiting at the entrance, pulled Bai Xianzhi into the private room. There were two tables in the room, and they had a total of thirty classmates. Ten couldn’t make it due to being from out of town, so twenty were present and the two tables were enough.

In the private room, more than half of the people were already seated. As Bai Xianzhi and Ji Dong entered, the people inside started making noise, “Old Ji, you actually brought Old Bai here! You’ve got some skills!” The one speaking was a guy named Tie Shang, who had a good relationship with Bai Xianzhi in university. Bai Xianzhi walked up to him and playfully punched him, saying, “Tie Shang.”

Tie Shang grinned, “Old Bai, we thought you wouldn’t make it this time. Didn’t expect you to come. It’s really a pleasant surprise! Someone in the class can now fulfill their wish!”

His words immediately caused an uproar among the others. Someone asked, “Is Sun Lanyou still not here? Quickly call him and tell him that Old Bai is here!”

Hearing this, Bai Xianzhi rubbed his forehead in distress and quickly stopped a classmate from making the call, helplessly saying, “What are you all talking about? Don’t make a fuss!”

“We’re not making a fuss. On the day of the last gathering, when you didn’t show up and we couldn’t reach you on the phone, Sun Lanyou was so sad that she cried, fearing that something happened to you!”

“Yeah, Old Bai, do you have a girlfriend now? If not, consider Sun Lanyou. She’s a beautiful girl and wholeheartedly devoted to you. It’s hard to find a wife like her nowadays!”

“That’s right, Old Bai, she’s the class beauty! You’re handsome, and she’s beautiful. It’s a perfect match!”

“Exactly, exactly!”

Bai Xianzhi didn’t expect that as soon as he sat down, he would become the center of a large-scale matchmaking event. He was truly speechless.

As classmates, he naturally knew Sun Lanyou. She was the class beauty, elected by the boys in the dormitory. Although he couldn’t see what was so attractive about her, since everyone said she was beautiful, he took their word for it.

He was aware that Sun Lanyou liked him. Back in university, after a basketball game in their sophomore year, Sun Lanyou found a secluded spot and confessed to him. He straightforwardly declined, stating that he didn’t want to date or get married.

He had thought that the matter was settled then. After all, Sun Lanyou didn’t come looking for him afterward, so he hadn’t expected this surprise at the final gathering.

But now that he knew, it didn’t affect him at all. He genuinely didn’t have any feelings for her. In his eyes, Sun Lanyou was just an ordinary classmate, and there was no possibility between them.

Seeing that Bai Xianzhi’s reaction was calm, the others stopped teasing. When Sun Lanyou finally arrived in the private room, she was welcomed warmly, but nobody made jokes anymore. One reason was that Bai Xianzhi had already made his stance clear, and the other reason was that Sun Lanyou had brought her own boyfriend with her.

Having spent a few months in society, the classmates who had found decent jobs were eager to show off and earn some envy points from their former classmates, hoping for applause and admiration.

Bai Xianzhi sat with Ji Dong and listened to everyone chatting animatedly, mostly about their jobs.

Among them, those who had found good jobs were feeling triumphant, hoping to show off their achievements to their former classmates. Others mentioned their plans to take the postgraduate entrance examination or civil service examination, and some talked about their plans to go abroad with family support. In short, everyone had their own plans.

At that moment, someone asked Sun Lanyou, “Lanyou, what have you been doing after graduation?”

Sun Lanyou smiled gently, with a touch of melancholy, and softly replied, “I’ve been learning from my father and will start working afterward.”

Someone with thicker skin directly asked, “What does your boyfriend do?”

At this point, the man who had been sitting quietly by Sun Lanyou’s side, playing the role of a background figure, finally looked at the people at the table. His gaze paused on Bai Xianzhi for a moment before he spoke, “I work at Landon Group.”

“Landon Group, the one among the top 20 in the world? The one headquartered in Silicon Valley?!!”

Sun Lanyou’s boyfriend nodded slightly, and someone else asked, “Are you working at the headquarters or a branch?”

Sun Lanyou’s boyfriend glanced at Bai Xianzhi before answering, “The headquarters.”

“Wow, it’s actually the headquarters! Do you mind telling us what position you hold?”

This time, Bai Xianzhi noticed that Sun Lanyou’s boyfriend seemed to be talking to him while answering, “It’s nothing extraordinary, just a Finance Department manager.”

“Manager!”

Someone exclaimed. The high salary at Landon Group was well-known worldwide. Even an ordinary employee there could earn tens of thousands of dollars a month, and a manager’s salary might exceed a hundred thousand dollars! Moreover, it would be in U.S. dollars. Calculating it this way, Sun Lanyou’s boyfriend’s monthly salary was probably around seven to eight hundred thousand yuan!

The men and women at the table looked at Sun Lanyou and her boyfriend with obvious envy. The men were envious of his high salary and promising future, as well as having such a beautiful girlfriend. The women were envious of Sun Lanyou for finding such a capable boyfriend right after graduation. Not only was he young and handsome, although not as good as Bai Xianzhi, he was still quite remarkable!

At that moment, Sun Lanyou and her boyfriend became the center of attention, and everyone noticed that their eyes kept shifting in one direction. Following their gaze, they found Bai Xianzhi sitting there calmly, as if nothing was happening.

Perceptive individuals immediately knew what was going on—it was nothing more than a case of lingering feelings and jealousy over a new love. Everyone pretended not to notice and continued chatting as before. However, there were also those who enjoyed watching the excitement and didn’t mind stirring things up. One of them asked directly, “Bai Xianzhi, what have you been doing after graduation? Where did you find a job?”
