Chapter 80 – Don’t Make the Parents Upset

Ji Jianyun was extremely efficient. He chopped up the stuffing and made the dumplings quickly.

He cooked the dumplings for Father Ji first. He put it into a covered bowl, and then into a food box. After talking to his wife, he brought it to Father Ji.

Dumplings should be eaten while it was hot and it was perfect right after it was cooked.

“What are we eating tonight?” Father Ji asked.

“Beef and celery dumplings,” Ji Jianyun replied. “I also made a bit of chili sauce for you, father.”

“It will be good.” Father Ji smiled.

Ji Jianyun let Father Ji eat by himself, so he went home. He quickly cooked the dumplings and brought them into the room.

“You took out the chili sauce? You’re making me crave it,” Su Danhong looked at the chili sauce and complained.

Ji Jianyun chuckled. “I forgot that you can’t eat spicy food.” With that, he was about to take it back.

Su Danhong said with annoyance, “I didn’t mean it. Don’t take it seriously. Go eat yours.”

Ji Jianyun smiled at her. He sat down and began to eat dumplings. It was delicious and very tasty. When he ate it with some chili sauce, his forehead began to perspire.

Su Danhong did not have any chili sauce, but still enjoyed the dumplings.

The spiritual spring water was definitely good for the celery. When she really thought about it, she was lucky that both she and Ji Jianyun liked to eat celery. They had about one square meter of it, which was enough for them to grow and eat.

While the couple were eating dumplings, Xiao Renren played by himself on the kang. The kang was pretty hot, so Su Danhong did not put too many layers of clothes on him since it would make it difficult for him to move. The kang easily warmed him up.

Thus, it was very convenient for Xiao Renren to play by himself there.

After dinner, Su Danhong wanted to wash the dishes. Ji Jianyun took over and asked her to watch their son while he cleaned.

Su Danhong giggled and relaxed. Now that it was the middle of winter, she really didn’t want to go out. Ji Jianyun still had to prepare food for the dogs, so she let him do that.

Da Hei and the other dogs had a big appetite. Ji Jianyun cooked a big pot of rice, and poured a layer of pig trotter soup over it. This was something Ji Jianyun had eaten before. His wife made it for him and it was very fragrant.

Besides what they gave Da Hei and the other dogs to eat, some families in the village might not have a chance to eat this kind of food.

Da Hei was at home and was fed first. It was clear that Da Hei liked it a lot. He went over and immediately gobbled it up.

The weather was cold now. The dogs in the family had to eat enough to be strong and keep from freezing.

The dogs were fed in the morning and evening. The food was good, and the dogs were pretty sturdy. When they were brought out and the villagers saw them, they were praised. At the same time, the villagers also told their children to stay away from the dogs.

Two adult men might not be a match for one of the dogs. With tough figures, sharp teeth and claws, the dogs really didn’t look like an ordinary country dog.

But with regard to these, Ji Jianyun and Su Danhong had the same view, which was to laugh it off.

Ji Jianyun brought the food up to the mountain and fed it to the three dogs while it was hot. The three dogs gobbled up all the meat and rice quickly. Then, Xiao Bai went to Father Ji’s place.

Xiao Bai was the dog that guarded Father Ji. When the other two dogs finished eating, one went to the sheep shed and the other went to the chicken shed.

This was their duty.

Ji Jianyun went back with content.

When he came back, Su Danhong asked, “Did Fourth Brother-in-law go to the mountain today?

“Yeah, he did.” Ji Jianyun nodded.

Su Danhong raised her eyebrow and questioned, “Did he say anything?”

“He said that our orchard looks set up. If I make money next year, then he will invite me to the city and buy a place.” Ji Jianyun chuckled.

“Eldest Sister-in-law came over today. She said that Fourth Sister-in-law was being smug about how the housing prices in the city had gone up,” Su Danhong said.

Ji Jianyun took it lightly. “What does that have to do with us? We don’t live in the city. It doesn’t matter if it goes up.”

“That’s what I said,” Su Danhong responded. In fact, if the apartments were not prepared for her children as a wedding gift, then she would not be interested in buying it. She did not live there and why would she buy it to let it gather dust?

“Next time you talk to Eldest Sister-in-law, tell her not to argue with Fourth Sister-in-law. When Hou Wazi is in high school, he will have to stay with his Fourth Uncle’s family,” Ji Jianyun said.

“I plan on letting Hou Wazi stay at our place. It’s close to the high school,” Su Danhong said.

Ji Jianyun was surprised. For a moment, he didn’t expect her response and immediately said, “It’s okay for him to live there, but food will be a problem. Where will he eat?”

“At school, and when he’s done, he’ll go back to the apartment. If he is still hungry, then the community outside is full of restaurants. He can eat noodles somewhere,” Su Danhong said. “But we’ll talk about it in the future. If Hou Wazi continues to be a sensible child, then there will be no problem with him living there in the future.”

Hou Wazi was still young, so they couldn’t make assumptions about how he would grow up to be. If he went down the wrong path, then she didn’t want him living in the apartment. Otherwise, what could she do if Feng Fangfang asks her to let him live there in the future?

“Okay, we’ll talk about it later.” Ji Jianyun also understood and nodded.

If his nephew was sensible, then it would not be a problem to live in that community. After all, he did not want his nephew to live with Lao Si’s  family. Lao Si would not have any issues with it since this was his own nephew. However, when it came to Fourth Sister-in-law, it was hard to say. Yunyun lived there, so their parents had to take out 500 yuan to help pay for the place. If it wasn’t for that, Ji Jianyun did not believe that she would be nice about it.

“Eldest Sister-in-law came over and talked a lot. She said that Fourth Sister-in-law came back with nothing this year,” Su Danhong continued to talk.

Ji Jianyun was shocked, then he carefully looked at his wife and said, ”Honey, let’s just do our part in being filial, and not worry about the others. Let’s just follow what we think is right.”

Su Danhong smiled at him. Was he afraid that she would be annoyed?

After all, his parents were all their parents, so why did her family have to provide for Father Ji and Mother Ji? And why must they let Lao Er’s family and Lao Si’s family come eat for free?

Feng Fangfang didn’t say how unhappy she was about this. Her family sent a bag of rice that was almost 50 jin to their parents at the end of this year.

If Father Ji and Mother Ji lived on this bit of rice, then they would still be hungry from just eating congee.

However, Feng Fangfang still thought that her family should provide for Father Ji and Mother Ji. Su Danhong listened to her talk and didn’t think too much about it.

Despite the cold weather, Father Ji still helped them guard the orchard and the sheeps and chickens on the mountain. Thus, she would not let Father Ji and Mother Ji live a difficult life.

So even if she had a bad impression on Ji Mudan and Yun Lili, she wouldn’t say anything. In any case, Lao Er’s family only ate the food provided during the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s meal, while Lao Si’s family only stayed until the tenth day after the New Year.

How could she add to the unhappiness of their parents because of these two families? It shouldn’t happen.

Although she was not generous, she still had tolerance for this.

“It’s not easy for father to be on the mountain,” Su Danhong stated.

Ji Jianyun nodded and looked at her. “It’s really not easy.”

“So don’t do anything to upset father. Fourth Sister-in-law and Youngest Sister-in-law are over there. If they eat until it’s New Year’s Eve, then there should be nothing left at home. On New Year’s Eve, you should bring a plate of ribs over and have a drink with father. Take the alcohol that Hong Jie gave you the last time you went to the college town,” Su Danhong said.

Ji Jianyun did not expect his wife to say this, and he immediately felt touched. His wife was really different from what she used to be.
