Chapter 81 – Yun Lili Came to Visit

What Su Danhong said was not wrong. She did not fight with Yun Lili, but she also did not go over to the old Ji family now.

It was easy to find an excuse: it was too cold and she was worried Xiao Renren would catch a cold. It was a good justification to not go over.

She really didn’t get along with Yun Lili, and Ji Yunyun was also over there.

“Third brother-in-law is here.” Yun Lili smiled.

“Mother said she wanted to make some celery dumplings. I brought some over to her. Where is she?” Ji Jianyun said.

Yun Lili looked at the crispy and tender celery and replied, “Mother has gone to the aunt next door. She’ll be back soon.”

As soon as she stopped speaking, Mother Ji came in from outside. She smiled when she saw her son and said, “I went to talk to Danhong, but I didn’t have time to pick any.”

“It’s all the same whether you or I pick it,” Ji Jianyun stated.

“You don’t have to make any food with Danhong tonight. Mother will make some more for you,” Mother Ji said.

“No, there’s still some in the fridge. We’ll just cook some for ourselves. Mother, you’re going to be busy so I’m going back,” Ji Jianyun said and went home.

“Mother, this celery is really fresh. Was it just picked? Does Third brother-in-law have a lot of celery at home?” Yun Lili asked.

“They just planted some,” Mother Ji replied.

Yun Lili immediately smiled and said, “That’s great. I love celery and now I have celery to eat every day.”

Mother Ji glanced at her. “It’s okay to go over and pick some once in a while, but to pick some every day? Danhong only planted a little, so how can our entire family eat it every day?”

The celery is something Danhong planted for herself to eat. Danhong is willing to share some, but how can she not be annoyed if Lao Si’s wife goes over every day to pick some to eat?

Moreover, celery is good for Danhong. She still has to nurse my grandson. Mother Ji refused this fourth daughter-in-law without a second thought

Mother Ji looked at her and said, “Okay, go wash your clothes while Jianyun is at home.”

Lao Si’s wife was acting pretentious. It was cold now, so she could wipe down her body and change her clothes. When it was too cold, she could change clothes and not wash it.

Yun Lili thought it was a little strange. What does she mean by telling me to take it when third brother-in-law is at home? Can it be that Su Danhong will not let me use the washing machine if third brother-in-law is not at home? 

Yun Lili took all the clothes she and her daughter had changed out of and took it over.

She knocked on the door and called out. Ji Jianyun went to open the gate. A dog that was the size of half a grown man came along with him. The big dog even showed his teeth at her and issued a warning growl.

Yun Lili was not mentally prepared to see this, and was nearly paralyzed with fear!

“Thi-third brother-in-law. Is-is this your dog?” Yun Lili stammered.

“Da Hei, retreat,” Ji Jianyun ordered Da Hei and nodded.

Yun Lili swallowed her saliva and said to Ji Jianyun with a forced smile, “Third brother-in-law, I brought some clothes over and want to borrow your washing machine.”

Ji Jianyun looked at her and said, “The washing machine is used for washing Renren’s clothes. If there are clothes from someone who was sick, then I’m afraid those clothes will need to be taken out.”

“No, no. Just me and my daughter’s clothes,” Yun Lili said at once.

Ji Jianyun nodded and brought her in.

Yun Lili glanced at the big black dog that was guarding against her like she was a thief. She suddenly realized what her mother-in-law meant before she came. With such a big dog and if third brother-in-law was not at home, she would not dare go over.

Su Danhong could not be relied on if the dog decided to attack her.

“Do you know how to use it?”Ji Jianyun asked.

“Yes, I have one at my maternal home,” Yun Lili responded.

If she did not know that this third brother-in-law used to be a tough and straightforward soldier, she would have thought that he was deliberately humiliating her.

They had different terms to address one’s brother-in-law and sister-in-law. Calling someone shubai (brother-in-law) was shubai. But when it came to calling someone zhouli (sister-in-law), it was saozi (sister-in-law). They didn’t follow calling a sister-in-law shenzi like in some parts of the southern Fujian region.

“She’s looking after Renren inside. That kid is tough to deal with, and he can’t leave his mother for a moment. You can go in to find her,” Ji Jianyun replied.

Yun Lili went inside.

She knocked on the door and asked, “Sister-in-law, are you there?”

Although Su Danhong didn’t have the patience to deal with this sister-in-law, she still had to maintain appearances and fake it. She answered, “I’m here, fourth sister-in-law, come in.”

Yun Lili pushed the door open and went in. As soon as she entered, it was surprisingly warm. She could see how hot the kang was.

When she came in, Su Danhong was holding a bottle to feed Xiao Renren. The little boy was hugging the bottle and happily drinking it down.
