It was more like a zombie from a movie, with a face that was blue and purple, decaying, and limbs showing signs of damage. The eye sockets were dark and seemed to have white maggots wriggling inside.

He didn’t immediately charge at him, instead, there was a hoarse sound coming from his throat, as if he was avoiding something.

Thinking about how he had touched this thing’s head earlier, Li Xi felt like he was going to vomit.

He washed his hands multiple times with water, scrubbing the skin until it turned red before stopping.

This hospital had a strange smell, and he hadn’t noticed that this doctor was this kind of thing before. Now, he carefully sniffed the air, and he could faintly detect the unique stench of dark magic.

Li Xi wanted to go and find the necromancer, but he realized it didn’t make sense. The goal of this game was to escape the hospital and find the spy, and the necromancer behind this might be one of the staff. Although overturning a small world was nothing to him, it would be too much trouble with the main system and Clemens involved.

His mind was filled with peculiar thoughts, and he turned to open the door to leave, but the doctor suddenly let out a howl and lunged at him.

“Clueless fool,” Li Xi glanced back.

With just a glance, the monster behind him burst into a cloud of bloody mist.

Being a mage himself, he didn’t particularly like dark magic, but he had some knowledge of it. After standing here for a while, he had figured out how this hospital operated.

He didn’t plan to disrupt this balance and casually walked toward the room.

No one was watching him now, so he decided to find Duan Zhen for a hug. After all, with so many monsters in the darkness, he was truly terrified.

The nurse who had guided him before was still wandering outside. Seeing him now, she dropped to all fours, her body contorted like a broken puppet. However, her speed was quite fast, and in the blink of an eye, she ran from the other end to face him.

Li Xi could even see her mouth stretching beneath the mask, revealing a mouth full of sharp teeth.

Normally, undead creatures, especially the low-level ones, wouldn’t dare to approach him. The way she was acting now showed that she was clearly being controlled by the necromancer behind the scenes.

Li Xi was getting annoyed, thinking that he might as well go find the necromancer directly. He moved his fingers, preparing to let the nurse follow in the doctor’s footsteps, when suddenly, someone leaped down the stairs, pulling him into their arms with one hand while kicking the creature away with a powerful leg.

“Brother Duan?” Li Xi caught a familiar scent and quickly adjusted his expression, putting on a delicate look. “Why are you here?”

“Just came out to take a look,” Duan Zhen said tersely.

The nurse, after being kicked by him, fell heavily to the ground, but she didn’t die. She continued to use her elongated limbs to prop herself up, making a hissing sound.

“Let’s go.” Duan Zhen pulled Li Xi and ran upstairs. With his long legs, he could take two or three steps in one stride. Li Xi, being of a smaller build, followed him like a little rabbit, keeping up well without stumbling.

On the third floor, there were even more strange creatures, as if they had stumbled into a monster’s lair.

In the corridor, some people were fighting with the creatures. Duan Zhen glanced at them and pulled Li Xi to the other side.

When a particularly tough creature pounced, Duan Zhen kicked it away effortlessly. For those that were harder to handle, he drew a pistol from his waist and fired a few shots, forcing them to retreat.

Li Xi followed behind him, tilting his face to look at Duan Zhen.

In the dim hospital light of the night, he could still see the pursed lips and the taut jawline of Duan Zhen’s face. His phoenix eyes revealed a fierce and focused gaze, yet the hand holding Li Xi’s was warm and steady.

Li Xi stared at him, almost feeling breathless.

This led to a moment where Duan Zhen safely brought the person back into the room, and when he turned around, he noticed that Li Xi’s face and neck were both flushed, causing him to pause.

“Feeling unwell?” He gently touched Li Xi’s forehead with the palm of his hand.

Li Xi’s breath caught.

Good, Duan Zhen didn’t suspect anything. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have asked such a question.

“I’m fine,” he lowered his gaze and said, “I just ran too fast earlier, and couldn’t catch my breath.”

“Take a rest,” Duan Zhen, well aware of Li Xi’s somewhat weak physical strength, similar to a little chick, so instructed him to sit on the bed and gently patted his back.

“Brother Duan, how did you end up on the second floor?” Li Xi casually asked, “If it weren’t for you, I might have been caught by that nurse. Thank you.”

“I’ve taught you before…” Duan Zhen was about to reprimand him, but when he looked down at the pitiful expression on the youth’s face and the reddened eyes, the rest of his words were involuntarily swallowed back.

After a brief pause, he continued, “Even if you can’t fight back, you can’t just stand there.”

His tone was much gentler than before.

“I’m sorry,” Li Xi lowered his head but moved closer to him, discreetly tugging at the hem of his sleeve, “I was frozen in fear just now, my mind went blank, and I couldn’t move… I must have caused you trouble, didn’t I?”

“No,” Duan Zhen sighed softly when he saw how frightened Li Xi looked.

The boy still clung to his sleeve as if it would give him courage, relying on him like this, and he couldn’t bring himself to scold him.

It was quite normal, after all, Li Xi was a timid and delicate child, frightened by those hideous monsters, unable to move a muscle, which was understandable.

Duan Zhen found a reason for him in his heart, saying, “It’s okay, monsters won’t come into the rooms at night. Don’t leave yours tomorrow night.”

“Okay,” Li Xi replied in a soft voice.

“In fact, I didn’t intend to leave the room. It was because that doctor said I had been punished for leaving the room without permission today, so he wanted me to go to his office at night,” Li Xi added.

“Our punishment was no dinner at night,” Duan Zhen frowned, pondered for a moment, and then asked, “Did he do anything to you?”

“He said my eyes were beautiful and that he wanted to collect them. But before he could put his words into action, he turned into a monster,” Li Xi sniffed as if he had been scared, “I was terrified at that moment, didn’t think twice, just ran out of the room and tried to find you, but that nurse caught up with me.”

As he spoke, he leaned towards Duan Zhen’s side, almost seeking refuge in his embrace.

Sun Le1Was a bit confused when his name suddenly appeared cuz I thought they were alone in the room but…no, I guess they aren’t even tho there was no mention lol  on the other side hesitated to speak, realizing that, under Li Xi’s subtle influence, Duan Zhen’s boundaries were continuously shifting.

Although it was just closeness for now, considering the pace of this development, it might evolve into something else in the future.

However, he couldn’t really intervene in their relationship, so he could only watch silently.

If Li Xi genuinely liked Duan Zhen, it wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Duan Zhen listened to Li Xi’s account, his brows furrowing.

“Were you sharing a ward with that Bai Hua?” he asked.

Li Xi understood what he meant and explained, “The punishment is unrelated to Bai Hua; it was the doctor who changed it after seeing my face.”

“But Bai Hua seems a bit odd,” he added, “His teammate gives me a strange feeling too.”

“Indeed,” Duan Zhen nodded.

Bai Hua’s teammates didn’t talk to anyone, just sat on the bed, and when it got dark, they stood up at the same time, seemingly preparing to go to the second floor.

He had observed their battle, and both of them had good skills.

“Bai Hua seemed really eager to show me his bracelet,” Li Xi complained, leaning on Duan Zhen’s shoulder, speaking softly, “The way he looks at me is the same as those people in the past. I don’t want to share a room with him.”

He held onto Duan Zhen’s arm, looking helpless and pitiful. Duan Zhen then said, “You won’t go back tonight; his teammates are meeting up with him. It could be dangerous for you to go back like this.”

Li Xi’s eyes lit up, and he nodded in a reserved manner, “I feel the same way.”

His gaze swept around the room, confirming that there were only three beds, which made him feel more at ease, and he then spoke, “I’m small, won’t take up much space, can I squeeze in with Brother Duan?”

“If it’s troublesome, I can sleep on the floor.”

Though he said it this way, his expression was fragile and nervous, as if he feared he would truly be left to sleep on the floor.

No one can resist the pleading look of a handsome youth, not even Duan Zhen.

Li Xi finally got his wish and slipped into Duan Zhen’s bed.
