TL: Moonlit

Aiyaaa~ Someone’s looking for his wifey hehe…

Who do you think his wifey is in this arc?

After leaving the temporary residence, Lin Hanchuan’s group burst into laughter.

“Ah, Sir, why do you lie with your eyes wide open?”

“Yeah, exactly! You’re not a cop, are you?”

Amidst the laughter, the person they were referring to also chuckled and said, “We find food for him, fight zombies for him, and he just lies there comfortably, not doing anything. I’m like his dad, spoiling him rotten.”

“Absolutely! It’s only because our boss is kind-hearted that he protects these ordinary people. If it were someone else, they would have abandoned these burdens long ago…”

Listening to their banter, Lin Hanchuan realized that most of these people were prison guards, and a few were inmates, but none of them were excessively evil.

Lu Mao was an orphan who stole something and got sentenced to fourteen months, so he should have been out soon. Another person used to be an accountant, handling the books for their boss for several years, but somehow ended up here…

It was precisely because they were all fundamentally good people that they could coexist harmoniously with the prison guards.

As they chatted and laughed, a few ragged figures appeared ahead, making eerie sounds non-stop.

This was Lin Hanchuan’s first time encountering zombies. He squinted, carefully examining them, and found that, while they were a bit more gruesome to look at, they weren’t particularly threatening. As long as he could overcome the psychological barrier, he could take them down.

It is the third month of the apocalypse, the early stages of the cataclysm, when zombies are at their weakest.

Lin Hanchuan curled his fingers, and a circular lightning appeared in his palm. When he spread his five fingers, the lightning transformed into several electric bolts, which in the blink of an eye shot toward the approaching zombies.

In just a few seconds, the zombies blocking the road were already lying on the ground.

After using his abilities, Lin Hanchuan felt a slight increase in the speed of the faint thunderous energy flowing within him.

“Boss, there are too many zombies, we can’t get in.” Wei Zheng, the prison guard who was joking with Lu Mao, said. He had been with the original owner for several years and was also one of the few who believed that the original owner was innocent.

“You go and lead away some of the zombies, while the rest of us go in to find medicine and rescue people.” Lin Hanchuan immediately arranged the plan. “Find a sturdy car and drive far away.”

The zombies’ speed wasn’t fast, and they could easily outrun them with a car.

Wei Zheng nodded, took out a bobby pin from his sleeve, and stealthily approached a small car parked on the road. Skillfully manipulating the lock, he managed to open the car door in no time.

“Darn it, a cop knows how to pick a lock better than me.” Lu Mao had been envious of Wei Zheng’s skills for a long time, but Wei Zheng was worried he would misuse them to steal things, so he refused to teach him.

Once Wei Zheng got in the car, he honked the horn, creating a loud noise. Some of the zombies heard the sound, causing a commotion, but none of them left the entrance of the hospital.

“What’s going on? Don’t zombies usually follow any sound they hear? Why aren’t they moving now?” Someone wondered aloud.

The next second after they spoke, most of the zombies poured out from the hospital, following the sound, leaving only about twenty to thirty that didn’t manage to join the others.

“Do zombies have a startup time?”

Everyone felt puzzled, and Lin Hanchuan also sensed that something was off. It was possible that the zombie king, who controlled other zombies, only appears in the later stages of the plot. It was unlikely that the zombie king was here right now…

Without further hesitation, Lin Hanchuan led his team to charge in.

His lightning, Lu Mao’s fire, and other members’ various weapons like knives, daggers, and wooden clubs… all displayed their skills, quickly dealing with this group of zombies.

The horde had stayed here for too long, and the nauseating smell overwhelmed their senses, much stronger than the rotting odor of dead rats—Lin Hanchuan unconsciously furrowed his brows, but the others were already accustomed to it and remained unfazed.

[“Do you want me to block your sense of smell?”] 001 kindly asked, feeling relieved that it didn’t have a sense of smell.

[“No need,”] Lin Hanchuan decisively refused. Living in the apocalypse, he knew he would eventually get used to it.

“Help! Help me!” A man on the second floor window waved his hand vigorously. He had witnessed the group’s battle with the zombies and was extremely excited. “Brother, save me! Save me!”

“There’s someone upstairs,” Lu Mao said, looking at the man.

“Be careful,” the group huddled together, slowly making their way into the hospital building.

Inside, there were still a few wandering zombies, but they were taken care of by the others without Lin Hanchuan having to intervene.

The lobby was in disarray, with various items scattered on the floor, including shoes, water bottles, broken glass, and dried blood stains. It was evident that the situation had been extremely tense when the incident happened.

“Lu Mao, take some people to the pharmacy and get medicines, prioritize antibiotics and other common medications like cold medicine and hemostatic drugs.” Lin Hanchuan gestured, dividing the ten people into two groups, with Lu Mao leading six.

He himself, along with two others, went upstairs to rescue the survivors.

They thought there would be zombies in the corridor, but to their surprise, the path was clear, and Lin Hanchuan’s group easily reached the window where the man was waving.

“Thank you so much, big brother.” After they entered the room, Lin Hanchuan noticed that the man was a tall and strong individual with bulging muscles under his loose clothes, standing at around 1.8 meters.

The man stood in front of the door, unable to see what was inside. Lin Hanchuan avoided the man’s attempt to shake hands, “Are there still people inside?”

The man’s face stiffened, “Yes.”

A sharp lightning bolt appeared in Lin Hanchuan’s palm, exuding a threatening aura, “Tell everyone to come out. Take advantage of the zombies not having returned yet and evacuate as quickly as possible.”

The man smiled awkwardly and turned to call for the others. At that moment, Lin Hanchuan swiftly passed by him and entered the room with his companions.

It was a simple internal medicine outpatient ward. The doctor’s desk and chairs were moved to the door. On the other side of the room, there were four or five people. Two of them lay in a pool of blood, their fates unknown. A woman was naked, holding a child while trying to protect herself. Even the child’s exposed skin bore old bruises, indicating that they had experienced something dreadful.

At first glance of these scenes, everyone understood what had happened here.

The zombies surrounded the hospital, trapping these people inside. As time passed and they ran out of food, they began to turn on each other. Once they realized the zombies couldn’t break in and they found a way to secure food, the darker desires of some men surfaced.

In a room filled with men, women, and children, those with stronger bodies became the dominant ones.

Lin Hanchuan took a deep breath. The two people behind him were already cursing loudly, “Damn you, scum!”

“No way we’re saving you!”

Lin Hanchuan looked at the two people lying on the ground. One was a middle-aged man who had already stopped breathing, while the other was a young-looking girl covered in wounds and bruises. Although her breathing was slow, what was unsettling was that she was still alive.

Seemingly feeling Lin Hanchuan’s gaze, the young girl struggled to open her eyes and turned her eyes with difficulty toward the woman holding the child.

“Don’t worry, I will save them,” Lin Hanchuan whispered softly.

After that, the girl’s breathing gradually ceased.

When he stood up again, Lin Hanchuan squinted his eyes and looked at the strong man.

The strong man rubbed his hands anxiously, showing some concern but no remorse. “We’ve been trapped here for over half a month, and there’s no food. In order to survive, I had no choice… The law allows for emergency survival; to preserve our lives, we can kill any animal. I just wanted to stay alive.”

“To survive, you resorted to the point of digging into the flesh of an underage girl. To ensure freshness, you didn’t touch any lethal areas…” Lin Hanchuan said slowly, “What about her?”

In the original text, there were instances of cannibalism, but those occurred during the later stages of the apocalypse when food was severely scarce. It was only the third month now, far from the brink of desperation. Yet, such incidents were happening.

“I’m a man, and I have desires like any other man. Brother, you would understand, right?” The strong man laughed awkwardly. In the apocalypse, would the police still arrest him for rape?

“I do understand you,” Lin Hanchuan nodded in agreement.

In the woman’s desperate eyes, he forcefully pulled down the curtain. His two subordinates immediately pinned the strong man to the ground, and Lin Hanchuan skillfully tied him up tightly from the chest. Then, he hurled the strong man down from the second floor.

“What the hell are you doing?!! You motherf***er!!!” The strong man no longer begged for mercy but cursed incessantly. Lin Hanchuan paid no attention, testing the length of the curtain, “It’s not long enough, bring the curtain from the next room.”

“Alright, Boss.”

With the added curtain from the adjacent room, the strong man was suspended about half a meter above the ground.

“The zombies just want to survive as well. So, please sacrifice yourself to help everyone. Besides, no one is coming to arrest you now.” After obtaining two bags of medicine, Lu Mao learned about the situation and especially went downstairs to strip the man’s pants off. “Hey, considering your height and build, you’re just a caterpillar to the zombies. They’ll finish you off with one bite, not enough to satisfy them.”

“Disgusting! Shut the f**k up.” Someone laughed and scolded, but didn’t stop Lu Mao’s actions.

The strong man’s actions were beyond human description; he was just a zombie in human skin.

“Dammit! You’re murderers! You bunch of killers!” The strong man yelled hoarsely, fear making him tremble as he struggled with all his might, but his efforts were in vain. He was just like a worm spinning in the air.

“You can keep yelling. If you attract zombies, I wonder who will suffer first, you or us,” Lu Mao said coldly, silencing the strong man. He no longer dared to curse and instead pleaded in a low voice, “Big brother, sirs, I was wrong. I won’t dare to do it again. I’m a human life too, please…”

Lin Hanchuan observed from above for a while and didn’t want to soil his eyes any further. He turned around and looked at the woman, who appeared to be in her twenties, with a gleam of satisfaction in her eyes. She glared angrily out of the window.

“What’s your name?” the little boy suddenly asked. He was about six or seven years old, with fair skin that made the old bruises on his body even more conspicuous. Unlike ordinary children, he not only had perfect angelic features but also beautiful, pure blue eyes, like a little cherub of mixed descent.

He was a little cherub of mixed descent.

“My name is Tu Ji, you can call me big brother.” Lin Hanchuan squatted down and took the boy from the woman’s arms, while another subordinate carefully lifted the weak and feeble woman. The group of people headed towards the temporary residence in the small building. “What’s your name?”

“I’m Cheng Jizhou.” The little boy smiled, looking even more adorable when he did so. He had an innocent and naive look, as if he didn’t understand the ways of the world. “Your country has a poem that goes, ‘A great river longs to reach the sea, and finally finds its way by taking a boat.’ It seems like that’s us.”

sigh Are there really so many people abandoning this story? It’s disheartening.

TL’s note: I have a bad feeling with Chuan Chuan’s wifey’s identity. Please don’t be what I think it would be >.>
