TL: Moonlit

“Do you even know such an obscure poem?” Lin Hanchuan’s voice softened a bit when dealing with the child. He wasn’t sure if it was his imagination, but he had never been particularly fond of children before. However, he felt an inexplicable fondness for Cheng Jizhou.

“Of course, I’m a genius,” Cheng Jizhou puffed out his chest proudly.

“A genius? I think you’re just a little genius smartwatch,” Lu Mao liked to tease and play around. Seeing such an exquisitely beautiful child, he couldn’t help but have wicked thoughts, “Just knowing one ancient poem doesn’t make you a genius. As for your country, are you a foreigner?”

Cheng Jizhou was momentarily stunned, then he was roughly ruffled by Lu Mao’s wicked hand.

“Darn it, Boss, look how cute this kid is!” It was the first time Lu Mao touched such an adorable child, and he was jumping with excitement. But then he suddenly noticed that the atmosphere seemed a bit off.

He looked around and saw everyone glaring at him fiercely. Lu Mao became timid and shrunk behind Wei Zheng, asking, “Why are you all looking at me like that?”

To his surprise, Wei Zheng also looked displeased. “No swearing in front of children.”

Lin Hanchuan covered Cheng Jizhou’s ears and said, “We’ll establish a rule from now on: whoever swears in front of children will go without food for a day.”

Lu Mao, who would starve from not eating for a day, felt sulky, “Alright, I won’t say it. Can’t a grown man like me even vent through words?”

Cheng Jizhou found it amusing to watch their interactions. He felt that these people were unlike anyone he had met before. There was no greed or desire among them, and the way they looked at him lacked the burning worship or jealousy he was used to, especially the person holding him…

Cheng Jizhou buried his face in Lin Hanchuan’s neck. He could resist the sweet scent of ordinary people’s flesh, but this person seemed to emit a strong aroma from his soul, making him uncontrollably want to devour.

A trace of red flashed in Lin Hanchuan’s beautiful blue eyes. Cheng Jizhou reluctantly licked Lin Hanchuan’s neck. He had promised his mother to be a good person and as a good person, he couldn’t eat others.

A coolness flashed across his neck, and Lin Hanchuan thought the child was secretly crying. He adjusted his embrace to hide the child’s teary expression from others. “Don’t be afraid. Big brother will protect you.”

Cheng Jizhou didn’t know why he was suddenly comforted. He felt like a toy being played with, a little confused, a little strange, and then he reacted, “I won’t call you big brother, you’re not worthy.”

Lu Mao: “…”

Others: “…”

“Kid, don’t talk so rudely, otherwise, when you grow up, you’ll suffer, you know?” Lu Mao spoke with earnestness, “Don’t think just because you’re cute now, everyone will be lenient with you. When you grow up and go outside, you’ll definitely get beaten up.”

Cheng Jizhou tilted his head up, “Who dares to hit me?”

If someone tried to hit him, he could defend himself, and he could summon the zombies to devour them—a legitimate defense, proving that he was a good person.

Lin Hanchuan didn’t mind the child’s blunt remarks. He chuckled and ruffled Cheng Jizhou’s hair, which felt ice-cold and soft to the touch. “I’m older than you, so why wouldn’t I be worthy?”

“How old are you?” Cheng Jizhou shook off Lin Hanchuan’s hand and asked seriously.

“Twenty-eight.” The original host’s age was twenty-eight, and Lin Hanchuan’s real age was also twenty-eight.

Cheng Jizhou snorted but didn’t say anything.

Having seen many mature-looking Europeans and Americans, he found it hard to distinguish Asians’ ages. When he saw Lin Hanchuan, he thought the guy had just graduated from college, only to discover that he was actually two years older than himself.

Ever since he mysteriously turned into a child after being infected by the source virus, Cheng Jizhou felt that nothing was going well. He often encountered strange people who wanted to kidnap him or harm him. He hid in the countryside, sneaked into hospitals to ‘borrow’ some research materials, and ended up trapped in the hospital, regarded as a victim.

Now, aside from his ability to summon zombies, he was as weak as any ordinary child. He was forced to be protected by a woman, and that burly man saw him as a delicacy, considering him a food reserve. Thus, he had stayed there, planning to wait until the zombies evolved enough to break in and then make a safe escape.

If that man dared to harm him, Cheng Jizhou would risk breaking his legs by jumping from the second floor, and then command the zombies to eat him.

On their way back, strangely, they didn’t encounter any zombies. Most of the group was satisfied, except for Lu Mao, who complained, “Sigh, can’t even grind monsters now.”

Cheng Jizhou, who had secretly driven the zombies away, really wanted him to experience the feeling of being swarmed by monsters, but sniffing the sweet scent lingering around his nose, he pretended not to hear anything.

Upon returning to the small building, the door was locked. It took Lu Mao some time to knock it open, and he was extremely annoyed, “Darn it… can’t you guys be woken up? Why lock it so tightly? If we were in an emergency, would you lock us outside?”

What kind of people are we saving here? Lu Mao was so angry that flames seemed to spew out of his nose.

Fire-based esper, Level 2. Cheng Jizhou’s eyes lit up with excitement. After enduring the virus, he developed his esper abilities and evolved into a new human. However, if the evolution failed, he would become a zombie. He had studied many zombies but had never researched successfully evolved espers.

“Sorry about that,” the chubby man responsible for opening the door offered a half-hearted apology, infuriating Lu Mao, who jumped up, ready to curse him.

Rong Ziping stepped in to mediate, “You are an esper, so you won’t encounter any danger. However, everyone else in this house is an ordinary person, so we need to be more cautious.”

Instead of calming him down, it seemed like Rong Ziping was intentionally provoking him. At least, Lu Mao was on the verge of exploding with anger.

Holding the child for so long, Lin Hanchuan didn’t feel the slightest strain in his arms. He furrowed his brow, casting a glance at the rescued ordinary people, and formulated a plan in his mind.

Rong Ziping also noticed Lin Hanchuan’s presence and saw the two unfamiliar faces in the group, “Are these the people you rescued? I remember the man who was seeking help at the window was… a man. How come…” There were only two of them?

“Oh, him,” Lin Hanchuan hadn’t spoken yet, but Cheng Jizhou casually responded, “He got bitten by the zombies and died.”

Bitten to death, not eaten.

After Lin Hanchuan took him away, he commanded the zombies to gnaw on the man’s flesh, starting from his feet, slowly working their way up to his thighs, then his private parts, and finally, his abdomen… Cheng Jizhou carefully instructed the zombies to avoid severing the arteries in his legs to ensure that he could witness his own slow consumption.

The virus was already dormant in every human’s body. A zombie bite merely triggered the virus’s activation. It took four to twelve hours for a complete mutation. Cheng Jizhou would make sure that the man savored everything he was supposed to enjoy during those hours.

But there was no need to tell anyone else about these actions. Even though Cheng Jizhou didn’t understand ordinary people well, he knew that such behavior was extremely cruel and unacceptable to anyone.

“How could this happen…” Rong Ziping’s face turned pale. A life was slipping away right in front of him, and he instinctively looked at Lin Hanchuan, “Why did you go so late? If you had gone earlier, you might have saved a life.”

Wow. Cheng Jizhou widened his eyes, feeling astonished as he looked at Rong Ziping for the first time.

“If you had gone earlier, maybe he wouldn’t have died,” Cheng Jizhou said, secretly adding in his mind, but you will die.

Lin Hanchuan chuckled and passed by Rong Ziping without saying a word to him. “It’s getting late. Be prepared for defense, Wei Zheng, arrange people for night watch.”

“Organize the medicines brought back from the hospital and treat the sick.”

Hearing Lin Hanchuan’s clear and distinct arrangements, Rong Ziping felt that something was amiss. In the past, if he got angry, he would definitely be coaxed and pampered, receiving various good things to appease him. But now… why was he so indifferent?

Author’s Note:

The receiver is a zombie king who starts off weak but becomes powerful later. In the beginning, he is fragile and needs to be well protected. The attacker is a powerful electric esper no matter the stage. (I know it’s cliche, but most attackers in the past had this power…)

Tips: The receiver is shrunk due to the virus and during this time, the attacker doesn’t have any special feelings for him and there are no romantic inclinations!

In this world, the receiver’s personality is quite extreme. He’s not a good person; he’s both salty and a scumbag… There are also some dark room scenes between the receiver and the attacker, so consume with caution.

TL’s note: Oh wow… I really thought the wifey was a little child, thank goodness it was just because of an effect that’s why he shrunk. Thanks for the warning, dear Author~
